The only way that Leonard Peltier will be free is if President Obama gives him the clemency. Pres Obama only has 424 days left in office. Pres Obama has let out others with unfair sentences might he think of this Native Brother whose served nearly 40 yrs.

The White House comment line is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., EST.

From the U.S., make your calls to the White House from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., and from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., regardless of your time zone to ensure that calls in support of Leonard Peltier will be received by the White House throughout the work day.

You can send a TEXT to 202-456-1111, as well, as long as your carrier provides text-to-landline service. Depending on your cellphone carrier, charges may apply.

Data show that an excellent way for Peltier supporters to communicate with the White House is by telephone (i.e., the White House comment line at 202-456-1111).

It's important to keep your call to the White House comment line as brief and to the point as possible.

If in the United States, identify yourself and your city and state. It never hurts to mention whether or not you're a registered voter and your party affiliation, if any. Otherwise, quickly get to the point of your call.

An innocent man has been imprisoned for nearly 40 years. President Obama please right the wrongs of the past and grant clemency to Leonard Peltier.

International callers can express concern, as well. Deliver the same message. Identify yourself and your country. Demonstrate that support for Leonard Peltier's freedom is worldwide.

I will sign these petitions just as I've all that I've found in other years. It is time to let this man be free. It's OK for the police and other US agencies to murder minorities in cold blood without facing any court of law, but this man is shown no mercy whatsoever for defending his people. Disgusting!

Thank you Dandelion . and I feel much better now because I got to sign the second petition . so two down , one to go . Angelika that sounds like what I went thru yesterday .so I emailed Amnesty and the response was it depends on which petition site they are dealing with and if the want a U S zip code or not .if you don't have a U S address with a zip code that is what you get , plus the inability to sign and send your signature . . hope you see this and it helps some .

Here is Leonard's 71st Birthday Message

September 12, 2015

Greetings everyone,

Well, today is another b-day for me — my 71st. I had hoped I would not be here at this age, but that's not to be. So, I have to take a deep breathe and slowly let it out… and prepare myself for yet another day in here.

February 6th marks my 40th year in prison. How many of you know that when I was indicted a life sentence was 7 years? I was sentenced to 2 life sentences, so with good time I have served 6 + life sentences. I suppose all of this time has taken its toll on my body. I have a number of different health issues that come with old age. The one I'm most concerned about is my prostate.

Otherwise, I'm still getting compliments on how good I look for my age (smile). People can be nice and say things that make me feel good once in awhile. But I'm told this so often that I'm starting to believe it (smile).

Hey, did you know that the last time I went before the Parole Commission (2009), I was denied because I looked young and healthy… and a reason given for denying me parole was that I might be too much of an influence on the young Natives? Yeah, only in America.

And get this… In October 1984, when the Parole Commission was repealed by Congress, the Commission was given 6 years to give me a parole date… all of us "old time" prisoners really (those convicted prior to 1984). Yes, this is all true. All you have to do is research it, and I bet you will come away shocked as hell that this can happen in your country. The Parole Commission is the only Government agency that has been repealed and reinstated 35 days later without having to go through the normal congressional channels and signed into law by the President. How does this happen in a democracy?

I've been encouraged by things I've read recently though. And looking back… It's been over 60 years, maybe a little longer. I was around 7 or 8 years old when I heard the old People talking about taking care of Mother Earth. But for me anyway, as with all young People, I did not really understand what they were trying to tell us, I guess? But I see today the traditionalists were correct and AIM People were right when we took it up as a rallying cry to the world. Still, when we spoke out against the destruction of Mother Earth, we were called a bunch of nuts. Well, today, it is called climate change, and there are now millions of us crying out against the destruction of out Mother Earth. Amazing, huh? Thankfully I have lived this long and can see we just might win this war. I know it's not over — far from it — but the world is waking up and talking about it now. So, it can be won in our lifetime.

Well, People, I don't know how much longer I have left on Mother Earth — or if I will even be around for the next few years — but I always hope and pray that I can be out there to spend my last few remaining years with you. If not, so be it. I have been in here too long to cry now. I just wish for more time to give to my People and to all freedom loving People in the world.

Thanks again for all of the love you have shown me over these 40 years. You have all been worth it.

In the Spirit of Crazy Horse…

Doksha,

Leonard Peltier

Thank you for posting, Dandelion. We must never forget Leonard or stop fighting for his freedom. Petitions gladly signed since the early 1990s. We activists had such high hopes that Bill Clinton would grant clemency for Leonard, but he punted. I will never forgive him for that. Now it's Obama's turn. Will he finally do the right thing and free Leonard before it's too late for him, health-wise? We can only hope and increase the pressure. Prayers and blessings to Leonard on his 71st birthday. Stay strong!

Thanks all, not the only thing I'm angry at Bill Clinton for, I'll add NAFTA, Welfare Reform Act, and removal of the Glass-Steagall along with it.

I'd like to "hope" that President Obama will.......but my hopes with him dashed away a long time ago, is why he did not get my vote the 2nd time around. But maybe on the way out the door, he just might consider what the original people have suffered through, what the African Americans suffer through, and just maybe from that angle of thinking.....add a drop of healing to the suffering and release Leonard.

Clinton and Obama should both be ashamed of themselves. They've been too busy kow-towing to their corporate cronies to care about injustice. Now and then it seems like Obama has a whim to perform a token gesture. I hope he will do so for Peltier before it's too late.

Thanks for posting the video, Dandelion, and to Rosemary for posting Peltier's Birthday Message. Signed & tweeted all petitions, and will e-mail Obama. We must not let up.

If Clinton and Obama should bear shame, why not the Bush's? Is it because we expect them to be racist douche bags? Not a great excuse. I can't accept that. What will Trump do? New mirrors for all the prisoners made of plastic?

Sheryl G (360)
Wednesday September 16, 2015, 4:01 am
Of coarse they should bear shame, all of them. I think because people expected Clinton to do better and he didn't is what people mean by that. Obama still isn't out of office so time will tell, however, being that Leonard is up in age and not well, each day that ticks by there is less of a chance he'll be alive to give clemency to....and then shame is to fall upon him as well.

I hope you signed the petition Helga.

My heart goes out to this man who has still a joy for life after being mistreated so badly. President written already, but I am going to write again. It can't hurt. Flood him with cards letters print letters and get them signed by anyone you know. It would just take a bit of time and some ink and paper to help Leonard possibly be free for the remainder of his life. I pray that he gets help with hius health. that is so unfair.

Leonard has given his lifetime up for nothing he ever did, but he stands for so much. Please don't just say you will write. Do so. It will cost you some time and stamps. Paper and your heart. I do hope people are really seriously helping. he has to be freed

Hopefully, my notes aren't too late...that people tracking this will be reminded to call the white house, send letters call again. Imagine your own life being in a small barred room. no contact no touching no loved ones.

Thank you Beryl for your great compassion and I agree the work Darren also placed into this cause. I only wish that more people would do what you both do.

I finally was able to download the letters and have begun to write them. I had to do my download when I have free data allowaance sinde I am out and it takes so long. TG I was able to do that at last! I am starting with Leonard's to Obama since there is little time left. also because I have to wait for money next month to buy more stamps. I have enough for one book and then January can finish the rest.
I am Hopeful. Peace
Anyone got an extra pen and a free hand to go with it? LOL

Thank you Beryl - and I agree please everyone join in, each letter makes a difference. It could be that one more letter that tips the balance in favor of the person that needs it. True little time left for Leonard and I so keep him in my prayers as President Obama has released more than past Presidents; yet still no Leonard.

Is why it's important to do snail mail, at least the UPS still delivers.

I agree. Flooding him with handwritten letters is definitely the best thing we can do to get the message to President Obama.
I don't have much faith in the comment line. Its ok...but kind of lame. I have a good feeling we can do this Dandelion. xoxo xoxo
Please, everyone, write at least one letter.

I find it amusing that the "official" channels of communication are closed for "the holiday" whilst people are still struggling.

Only the comfortable and the well to do can take time "off" the rest just hang on or worse.

Hopefully they have a nice build up of work to contend with when they return.

Had Obama pardoned Leonard Peltier when he came into office, there wouldn't be an ongoing issue.

The way President Obama treated the situation with Standing Rock I'm not expecting Leonard Peltier to be given consideration by him. I'm still in hope he will and would like to be proven wrong, but I'm not expecting him to do the correct thing by Leonard Peltier.

Many injustices have taken place upon this land but that certainly is a major one that could be given some measure of healing and a few days for that man to be among his own people. To have that power in ones hands and not to offer it will forever in my mind go against our first minority President.

Peltier was given a Kangaroo trial and not by a jury of his peers and by an all white racist justice system as one can still see going on out there in 2016. Here is a chance for a minority President to balance the scale a wee bit at no cost to him, his terms are over, he is financially well off, he will be in the history books as the first minority President, he has nothing to lose in this clemency, yet to the Native people it would be major.

There was an action recently to either call or write to Obama for the commutation of Chelsea Manning as he just put her on his short list for parole/clemency.
I did write a personal note to him also again asking for release of Peltier at the same time. Others should do so as well, something useful for his last days in office!

All we can do Darren, get more to sign, make a phone call, email, keep pushing. On Leonard the FBI gathers all of it's supporters to ask that Leonard does not receive clemency each time a President can do so, therefore if no one speaks for Leonard then all the President hears or sees if keep him in prison.
