Petition by Nicole March

Even though his injury from the war caused him terrible back and leg pain throughout his life, my dad never complained to the VA -- he rarely asks for help from anyone. But now that he's 90 years old, dad is really sick and he urgently needs help from an assisted living facility. Our whole family is worried about him: he's barely eating, he's nearly lost his eyesight, and he's suffering from dementia. In just a few months, he lost 70 pounds.

Dad needs constant care, but Mom isn't able to be a full-time caregiver because she's struggling with cancer recovery and diabetes -- and my family doesn't have enough money to pay out of pocket for him to get a home aide.

The VA lost our application for assistance two times before they denied our claim. Even though my parents are crippled by medical costs and their home was foreclosed on 2/27/2013, the VA says my dad "makes too much money" to qualify for help. In reality, my parents barely have enough left over at the end of the month to buy their groceries, let alone pay for at-home care.

My dad was there when our country needed him to fight in WWII, healing others as a medic on the battlefield where he earned a Purple Heart. Now that he needs us, will we turn our back on him? Sign my petition asking that the VA give my dad the benefits he and all veterans deserve for their service and sacrifice.

Looking at the updates from his daughter he has passed away. RIP James March, thank you for your brave service to your country and contribution to our freedom, and I am sorry your government was not there for you in YOUR hour of need!
Just horrible.

I am no longer being allowed to sign these Change dot org Petitions. I would of added my name of support even though at current times it most likely will do little. It is addressed to the Tea Bag Senator Marco Rubio who still did vote to keep the Government Shutdown going. Marco Rubio doesn't care about a sick Veteran, he doesn't care about sick children, there is a Fascist Agenda going on, and that is all the neo conservatives care about. Many families are suffering out there......this is one face. Millions in various states of pain and suffering go on each day while our Government placates to the Wall Street Speculators and other Plutocrats in the top 1%.

You are correct Coral.....the updates do say he is deceased. If the family reads this I'm very sorry for your loss and the tragic lack of concern for another human being you were shown by agencies that no longer help those who served.

You can thank the ones who are Chicken Hawks that have taken control of this Country starting with the Wolfowitz Doctrine and applied to our Country in step by step measures. Your Father was treated poorly and unfortunately these are the conditions that many people are waking up to when we have had these Chicken Hawks bleed us dry by increasing our Imperialistic War Machine while giving all the tax breaks to the Oligarchy so they may live in the lap of luxury while your Father and your family suffers.

According to the update Mr. March has passed on, so need to sign unless on principle. Which I would have done anyway simply because our veterans deserve to be honored with dignity and respect and so many aren't. They have been there for us and we should be there for them.

Done. I am very grateful for the Sacrifice of this Brave and the Ultimate Sacrifices of his Brothers-in-Arms. Try to get some help from the American Legion. The British Legion whose I am a member does a lot to help their Veterans. Unfortunately I have no detail about the US Legion. Perhaps another Care2 member knows more ...
"When you go home, tell them of us and say :
'For your tomorrow, we gave our today'".

Thank you, SIR.

I seldom disagree with Sheryl but have to on this issue. You can't assign blame for the current VA mess to some character of the past. The VA has always been less than kind to military retirees and short-timers who for one reason or the other were not allowed access to the system. The Obama administration has taken giant steps backward in support of our military and military retirees and other vets. they talk a good game and use the folks in uniform for political ends but in the final analysis, kick us in the backside, lower our benefits, increase our costs and make even getting seen by the VA a hardship. A retirees wife cannot even get an ID card renewed without travelling over 100 miles. then, she is greeted by a "we only do first come first served on Wed mornings between 6 and 10 AM"!

This poor gent is unfortunately a typical example of where we as a nation have put our priorities. We need to stop fighting each other over liberals and tea baggers and start working together to clean house!

How about voting everyone out and setting a requirement of at least 4 years of military or alternative government service (like peace corps) to be eligible for any political office????

Sorry for the rant but this is a subject close to home and one I know all to well.

I certainly agree with what you said John, both Parties have long failed the Veterans, I recall how long it was for the Agent Orange to be recognized for those soldiers to even begin to get some help on that. However, I feel there is a big difference in the Tea Bag Republicans and the more moderate Republicans and the later needs to step up against those on the extreme right that is dragging their whole Party down the drain.
