Today, Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Representatives George Miller (D-CA) and Richard Hanna (R-NY) introduced the Strong Start for Americaís Children Act. This bill is an important bipartisan step in ensuring access to high-quality preschool for low- and moderate-income children.

Please help us give this bill a solid start by asking your Members of Congress to co-sponsor it. While youíre at it, itís also important to remind your Members of Congress to support a federal budget that ends the sequester and includes significant new investments in early learning.

The introduction of this historic early learning bill provides an opportunity that we canít afford to miss. At the same time, as the federal budget is negotiated between the House and Senate, we must fight hard to undo the harsh effects of the sequester and to increase investments in early learning. So, what exactly does the new Strong Start for Americaís Children bill do?

It creates new partnerships between states and the federal government to help states and communities improve and expand high-quality, full-day preschool programs for four-year-olds from low- and moderate-income families. It would also provide new funding for high-quality early learning programs for infants and toddlers.

I'm sorry, I've read up on this a bit, and keeping the sequester intact is working to slowly de-fund the Pentagon war machine. So many wasteful things have been found in that system since the enactment of the sequester. This letter won't allow me to eliminate that line. I got 2 of these in my personal inbox already and just couldn't sign. I've been signing in support of specific items that lie along progressive/green lines to not cut Soc. Sec. or SNAP, or continue funding other specifics that benefit those most in need, though. We must choose our targets wisely.

S&N. Yes Kit, me too. I used to have
the very honorable and intelligent Mr.
Lloyd Doggett until the last freakish
gerrymander put him outside my area.

A strong investment in children early in life will lead to fewer costs later on in prisons, welfare, dealing with homelessness, etc.
