With Black Friday the busiest shopping day of the year, more and more retail giants are forcing employees to come in on Thanksgiving Day—often working during dinner hours.

Walmart is opening at 6:00 p.m. Thanksgiving (two hours earlier than last year) and Target will open at 8 p.m. (one hour earlier.) Staples will open on Thanksgiving, for the first time ever.

There is no reason for this except greed. Opening on Thanksgiving Day takes workers away from their families over a holiday when they should be giving thanks with their loved ones.

Shopping for crap that nobody wants or won't be remembered a year from now. Pretty stupid. Shoppers anonymous?

Of course I signed! All of those workers who are forced to worked on a day meant to be spent with family and friends are being taken advantage of because of the financial circumstances created by their employers. I am sure those who have created this unfair scenario will enjoy their Thanksgiving Day not encumbered by working to put food on their table!

The manager's should treat the worker's as they are treated! They are always off and take the day off with Pay! The worker's should have the Same. Nobody really wants to be there! They all want to be with their own families! What the Company won't do to Cover-up Things! Know anybody that work's there ask them! They will tell you they are not allowed to talk about it!
Thank You Carrie

Noted & signed. TY, Beverly! The most powerful vote is with the almighty dollar & I relish withholding mine from these exceedingly greedy corporate bullies. Not only is there no Black Friday shopping done from our family; but we also try to purchase as little as possible from big business modern day slavery purveyors. GYO, barter & trade or buy local, Folks! Your community (with you in it) will be a whole lot better for it! Make your dollar count!

Vote with your dollar. I had no problem signing this petition and it amazes me why anyone would want to join in on this "Black Friday" bullcrap. One can find sales all year long if people paid attention and place the item aside until it is to be given.

We do little gifts in our home, it's a big commercial event now, the reason for the season has been pushed out by the consumerism and people are rushed to join into this frenzy that only benefits the Corporations and far too many suffer all year trying to pay off what they couldn't afford to begin with. Stupid......but so many feel pressured to do this or they feel as if they are a bad person in some way.

Stay home, relax with a good book, enjoy your family, or go help at a soup kitchen. Visit the Elders in Nursing Homes, many are alone and would enjoy some company. Make your life valuable not give that time in your life to make some CEO rich or the Walmart families of the world richer. They could care less about you, but a visit to a Nursing Home will fill your heart as well as the resident full to overflowing. That is a much better treasure.

signed. I also have a problem with sales on Vets/Memorial day. As much as I distrust the military industrial complex (gives me a paranoia complex)...we need to honor the dead.
It's NOT a time to bargain hunt. Many of the vets paid with their lives, they will never come back. It needs to be a day of rememberance, a day of reflection.

Signed and shared. I personally believe that a company is in the wrong when it puts profit over family. I love this statement: "It takes workers away from their families over a holiday when they should be giving thanks with their loved ones (or slightly dysfunctional relatives). It brings out the worst in humanity on a day of thanks"

As I noted elsewhere my wife and I do not shop during the holidays, which apparently were invented as cause celibre's for the retail industry. We save our money and put up our tree on Thanksgiving day, not running around in a panic trying to get the best deals. We then put everything, and I mean everything we bought the entire previous year neatly under the tree until there is no longer any space. It reminds us of how good we have it, sometimes it reminds of how we've over bought. Then, as a bonus, we get to take advantage of the after feeding frenzy sales where the retailers have to unload all the stuff they've overstocked on, typically a lot of stuff. Anything you looked at before Xmas that you wanted will now be 75% less, really 75% sometimes 80% especially clothes. We've been doing it for 37 years, works every time. Won't participate in the retail brainwash. Oh, we don't go out to eat either, nothing like a nice dinner where everything comes from China and anything made with water is made with tap water which we avoid like it's poison, always have. We drink nothing but filtered water and use a Berkey light (without the lights) and a 5 gal jug on a ceramic base. Good luck, Merry Xmas and Happy Holidays.

Signed . . . but again, it feels like cheating. I don't go to any store between Thanksgiving and Christmas if I can possibly help it. Even shoppers in the grocery stores seem nastier. And the unrelenting Christmas music is already making me psychotic. (Seriously. Don't make eye contact.)
