Right now, the ground underneath Yellowstone National Park is rising at a record rate. In fact, it is rising at the rate of about three inches per year.

I've heard about this before. Hopefully, a major eruption won't happen anytime soon.

Thanks Carol!

Carol, you left out the part that claims this is all Obama's fault. Please, edit your work more carefully in the future.

How much of this can be traced to oil companies drilling in and around the park (the government may have shut down, but the drilling didn't, you betcha)?

Joanne..this is the reason fir the action of the volcano..not oil drilling...

Fascinating article. Whatever happens, happens as Nature is unpredictable.

The Big One, earthquake wise has been predicted for quite some time.
One never knows but hopefully the volcano will be mellow for the next thousand years,as staying around to observe the fascinating antics of conservatives, liberals and all political stripes which provides material for satirists is kind of fun rather than a mega eruption and then not having any deer or other wildlife and humans to observe. It would be a dull world without the antics of the human race and the wildlife and dometic pets in our lives.

Long live the mellow volcano, having only quiet eruptions.

Dale ..Unfortunately the predictions on this volcano at the moment one never knows WHEN it will go off but the fact is it WILL!! I think your hope for the Volcano to mellow over the next 1000 years might be a pipe dream judging by the seismic activity from this Volcano and it's the Volcano that's been predicted for a very long time that when it did go off it would be devistating to this country!! Let's hope it holds off for a very long time!!

It is scary indeed. Especially with them not seeing this kind of activity before. Yellowstone is beautiful. I'll never forget the scary experience we had when I was young there. There's a reason they say "Don't feed the bears!" That experience could have resulted in a big paw swipe to my mother's or my face, because Papa Grizzly didn't get another piece of bread fast enough. That's what I attribute the paw swipe to the top of the car seat as, instead of our face, anyway. Those bears may walk slow, but slow they are not!
Thanks for the article Carol. I'll pass it on. Let's hope this volcano decides to curb it's temper for a very, very long time!
