Not only is cyber crime used to steal identities, but with that, people have found that real estate can be stolen too and credit cards/loans applied for. The price . . . a nasty surprise that is hard, sometimes impossible, to unravel, and costing innocent victims a lot financially.

I don't think they are, Barbara. It isn't all that easy, let alone inexpensive!, to tackle this sort of stuff once the gangs have discovered and infected your servers. If any large network such as this were to get to the root it means doing massive work on servers and exchanging them, go to different locations with them perhaps, in any case it would bring an INTERRUPTION of online business for all members here. Short or medium time of OFF LINE. That is to be considered by any company, "time is money". And as you've suggested, hire additional staff to watch would by an endless task without getting the thing at the root of all evil.

Yes, BM, many, though not all are experiences this issue since a few days, not much of anything works, white pages, no PM access etc etc..on and off. I have some hope that this may be an indication they're already working on the issue, but, it could very well also mean quite the opposite, that the wrong folks ara at work here.

I got no other message than you sent out to all friends tonight.

Undoubtably there is more of that scam stuff to come, once they found an easy access to a network they of course keep using in more and more. and if they happen to have SOME SUCCESS even, well guess, go figure!

I should go look if my visitors from yesterday's posts are still there, haven't even checked yet. They came faceless this time, no names either, just a run-over-the -keys name.

I can't find them, need to turn tons of pages in PM where I also got the msg. Cant remember which posts, they all made front page but i see none now. perhaps they've removed both, the scam AND my warning posting underneath..

I flagged several COMPUTER-GENERATED SCAM-ads on C-2 open threads yesterday. Due to lack of time, I didn't visit that many, but they appeared on almost every thread that I did visit. If I remember correctly, one of the so-called C2 members had a name (first and last) without any vowels in it! What you're saying is becoming more and more evident to me, Barbara. Thank you for being such a dedicated advocate. And thank you, Angelika, for your contributions as well!

I've flagged several scam ads too in the past. I've not been on C2 for much time in the past few days so haven't flagged any. I also flag "new members" - same picture, different names (male & female), and shady info in the profile. I'll keep doing both of these things. I hope C2 wakes up. Thanks Barbara for your devotion to this topic.

It appears that our critical posting about that stuff not getting enough flags and getting removed quickly enough is what is disturbing to C2! Furthermore, they may not get "quite disturbed" before those scams become the MAJORITY of posts and threads on site here and all our contributions the MINORITY. Wait for it.

Is why I'm tired of all of these places like banks, car insurers, the grocery store all pushing me to use more and more of the techie stuff. I want to go to a bank teller, I don't want to do it via my computer, I don't mind going to my local Insurer and paying my bill. I use cash mostly and I see the problems with so much being tied to computers. If one goes to do business and their computer system is down, then that is it. Just like I want the voting system to be backed by paper, that too has been known to be rigged.

As much as I've loved meeting people around the world and doing things to help not only my own community but I can reach out and support someones issue in say India, I'd give all this computer stuff up to go back to the way it was; but I suspect that isn't going to be unless the whole thing is crashed and taken down. Remember to teach your children how to figure out math without a calculator and teach them to read cursive, which both are being lost over here.

..Looks like some comments may be missing here-was there NOTHING between 7:22 pm and 10:26 pm and again till 5:33 am next morning? What happened to the nightowls? Maybe just another failure of C2..? They need to fix their glitches, and soon!

Dandelion : " Remember to teach your children how to figure out math without a calculator .."
Believe it or not, i saw a report on a study done that found this deficiency in maths skills is also a main cause for so many under water house foreclosure victims! they were simply UNABLE to do the math when making a contract with these sucker banks for a home and didn't figure out that in no way would they be able to pay all the mirgage! something these fraudulent banks of course abused widely as well.
You'll all be under water if there will be NO funds and investments in EDUCATION !!!

Geez Tas, that is sure to keep stinking for quite some time! sorry to hear. the only time ever it happened to me, or rather my husband, was in Paris when eating in a restaurant and paying the bill with CC was done in a common manner those days:waiters had a portable cardreader and took it with them out of our view .- bang-only noticed later back home when the accounts came, but Santander did refund us.Tha was in the 90s.

One of the things there is about piracy. I can't believe so many go to places where they can't get home again. I belong to the Seaman's Church Institute in New York. Merchant marines are some of the worst abused and ripped off people in the world.

Thanks for the hot info, y'all!! This is why I would much rather use cash! The overuse of electronically generated money is ripe for the picking and we are the low-hanging fruit! All the people on this site should be telling everyone they know about this stuff!
Thanks to all who researched this and brought it to the eyes of the people here. I know there are more who contributed here, but it seems that some got lost in an electronic nightmare!
Kudos and green stars to all!!

Interesting comments. Guess I have the advantage, in that I pay everything online when I have money, the rest of the time my account is empty. Poor bloody me. (:

Otherwise, if you have linked accounts, keep one empty, only use for shopping, paying bills?
