We need to do this to fight climate change, clean up the planet, and become more energy secure ... there are so many reasons why this needs to be done.... Thanks to all who are taking action :)

Give me a break! Where do I begin? First, Obama promised an open government. Instead, the Stimulus Bill was composed behind closed doors, we did not get a copy of the bill until it was ready to vote.

Second, I thought the Stimulus Bill was supposed to green energy! What happened? Where are all the jobs? Instead, we just get hundreds of billions worth of earmark spending.

If the Democrats really wanted to help, which they don't, they would have got solar heating in every home. Solar heat pays for itself in just a few years.

I support public transportation, Amtrak, electric bicycles. I support ending federal subsidies for airports.

Regardless of where you live, you can help. Write your MP about money for solar heat. In Canada, this will keep homes warm. In Australia, this will keep homes cool. If your government subsidizes airports with federal money, you should write your MP about ending it.

We can eat flexitarian and save on petroleum.

Just maybe if we start by cleaning up Washington it would be a lot cleaner and a lot less poluted.the life you save may be ours. by the way . two more of those stupid bulbs went out . They stink. They are only great if you do NOT USE your LIGHTS !All that hot air in the house and senate and lets not leave out the judges. Who do NOT LEGISLATE FROM THE BENCH, sure !!!!!!

I personally think that we should be working to get solar, wind power and sea power working to their maximum. I know that there is pollution created by oil and gas and that the others are much cleaner but has anyone really got down to working out the hot air from the facts or are we all being carried along by those wishing to make lots of money from our ignorance?

Here is a little bit of information that may put things into their proper perspective. Remember, I am for the renewable thing myself.

I was sent an analogy (based on fact) that simplifies carbon pollution. Well worth a read.
You’ll realize the insignificance of carbon dioxide as a weather controller. Here it is:

Imagine 1 kilometre of atmosphere and we want to get rid of the carbon pollution in it created by human activity. Let’s go for a walk along it.

The first 770 metres are Nitrogen. The next 210 metres are Oxygen.

That’s 980 metres of the 1 kilometre. Twenty metres to go. The next 10 metres are water vapour.

Ten metres left of which the next 9 are argon.

Just 1 more metre. A few gases make up the first bit of that last metre. The last 38 centimetres of the kilometre is carbon dioxide. A bit over one foot. Of that 38 cm 97% of that is produced by Mother Nature. It’s natural.

Out of our journey of one kilometre, there are just 12 millimetres left. Just over a centimetre - about half an inch. That’s the amount of carbon dioxide that global human activity puts into the atmosphere.

And of those 12 millimetres, Australia puts in .18 of a millimetre. Less than the thickness of a hair. Out of a kilometre!

As a hair is to a kilometre - so is Australia’s contribution to what Rudd calls Carbon Pollution.

Imagine Brisbane’s new Gateway Bridge, ready to be opened by Rudd. It’s been polished, painted and scrubbed by an army of workers till its 1 kilometre length is surgically clean. Except that Mr. Rudd says we have a huge problem, the bridge is polluted - there’s a human hair on the roadway.

We’d laugh ourselves silly.

ETS is just another tax. It is equal to putting up the GST to 12.5% which would be unacceptable and produce a public outcry.

This probably is the truth that Rudd and Wong don’t want Australians to hear. Maybe its the same in the USA only the greatest pollution comes from China and India where most of all our industrialisation has gone as well as most of our jobs. How many people are out of work here in OZ or the US because they have gone to countries who are not worried about the carbon problem?

I was a manufacturer of machinery for the Glass industry and what hit my business was the cost of our base products, steel etc which was being made here in OZ and the quality WAS reasonable but then china wanted our steel because it was of good quality. What happened to us as manufacturers? Our prices doubled and then we had to try and compete with chinese imports which were never the same quality as what we produced here.

Maybe I should rethink my position on this Global Warming scam. Someone is doing the advertising and scaring us into submission so that THEY can control the world. Methinks they are very smart people and WE are the idiots that are listening to their spiel AND losing our livelyhoods to others who get paid peanuts to produce for a few cents what costs us tens of dollars to produce. Are we really thinking about our families or how to fill the pockets of those who really do not care about the atmosphere and produce probably the other 9 or more millimetres of the carbon dioxide in that mile?
Should we really be penalising our folks out of work so that our families eventually starve. We all need to get a life and WAKE UP to how we are all being manipulated.

Oh, I forgot. We need to get rid of a few billion people so that the resources of the world are more sustainable. How silly of me to forget that

We put BILLIONS of TONS of carbon dioxide into the air each year at ever increasing rates - and ther are those who still believe we can do this with impunity and have not effects on the planet??? The same PR firms that are telling us this is "safe" are the same one who told us that smoking is safe (the fossil fuel industry has hired the same firms)...

Robert, anyone can spout off generalities like 'THEY'. Who's 'THEY'?
And there you have tons of varying ideas by New World Order conspiracy theorists about who 'they' are supposedly, as numerous and differing as there are theorists.
'THEY' have created a global warming 'scam' so THEY can 'control the world'. That is the New World Order Conspiracy Theory.

And the idea about 'getting rid of billions of people' is just another NWO conspiracy theory idea.

Of course, anyone is free to believe whatever they want to believe.

For anyone else to accept it though it has to be proven or it's just unproven speculation, opinion, possibility, etc.
