Apology That Flies in Face of Integrity

World  (tags: torture flights rendition complicity-in- )

.. David Miliband, is "very sorry" for a couple of events way back in 2002 that were overlooked in "good faith". These things happen. They happen, at any rate, if you look the other way when torture is going on.

Rendition is immoral.

The twin Bullies of the world Bush & Blair lied and lied to us over the whole of the so called 'war on terror'. Only now are some of these lies being exposed. Personally I find it totally indefensible that my country became involved in the systematic kidnapping and troture of suspects. The fact that our polititians lied and lied over the whole sorry mess comes as no surprise to us who tried to alter peoples way of thinking at the time. But the country was swept along in the tide of war and false patiotism that followed the destruction of the Twin Towers. We need to accept that our countries have been involved in both commiting war crimes and attempting to cover them up.

Flights of special rendition or the so called torture flights are just one manifestation of the rotteness and evil that was perpetrated in our names. When will we see that saying sorry like that kid Miliband did last week is just not enough. It was a disgrace that it happened in the first place. It was a crime that happened and those responsible should be made to stand in an Internation Court of Law to account for their actions.

And they are still doing it, David. These prisons are there - in Syria, Jordan - maybe still in Romania and Poland and of course Diego Garcia - who knows? These flights are landing at Prestwick airport in Scotland. And in London, no doubt. This so-called admission is a joke. I thingmied an article y'day but didn't forward it. It's worth reading. Will forward it tomorrow. It's yon time now!!

Noted. I agree with you all, Cate, David, and Eleanor. Admission of guilt matters not to these people for they just continue to do what they've been doing. There is no conscious...there is no remorse...and there is no intention of stopping. An inportant story, Eleanor, and I thank you for bringing it, disgraceful news that it is.

It is disgraceful that torture has been made acceptable by the US and the UK. The shame is upon both. We fear the return of citizens to Algeria and Morocco and Egypt and Libya to name but a few - but our governments do not care if they are tortured or not. There are either big oil or gas deals or ridiculous pacts to do with a ridiculous 'war on terror'. These made by the biggest terrorists on the globe - those who callously go and bomb other countries. And we see these pitiful puppets like Milliband 'apologising' over TWO flights refuelling in Diego Garcia when we all know there have been possibly hundreds of flights landing in Scotland and England.

Once upon a time , the people of the world decided to build a nation that was different.. a haven from the Barbaric oppression the Old World omnipotent rulers.

Diego Garcia has been one of the many
undiscussed shames of this war. Her
Majesty's Govt. owns the island, but
they are absentee landlords who have
given the U.S. the free run of the place.
Diego Garcia is the U.S./U.K. version of
Devil's Island, and there have been alot
of wispered rumors of the horrors that go
on there. Someday the truth may come out,
I just don't think I'll want to know it.
Thanks, Eleanor.

Until the first world stops committing these human rights abuses, and the human rights abuses of invasions and occupations, then other countries (e.g. China) won't take their human rights criticisms seriously.

Thank YOU for posting this expose Eleanor.
The injustices, lies, excuses and browbeating go on and on. AND it all needs to STOP --- "two wrongs Never make a right" and torture and kidnapping will Never be right. Hypocrisy, coverups and "silence violence" is a direct result of doing the wrong things. THE TRUTH and COMPASSION are also Victims of these "Crimes against Humanity"

Read and noted. Thanks for posting Eleanor! I am disgusted with Canada as well (I am Canadian and live here). Our pansy Prime Minister wants to water down our stance on torture to remove the United States from our national list of countries who commit torture. Just disgusting. Stephen Harper and his cronies are Bush's nancy puppets!!!!

Two wrongs do not make a right-correct,but they do keep you & your country alive if others are also doing it,thus not so doing means only you lose,& lose perhaps your own & others Life.
All parties do need to stop this. Paients does have it's rewards in waiting to "aquire"someone in a legal manor. Yes,people will die awaiting there "aquation",but hey, does not this world claim it is overpopulated.

That's dreadful, Ruth. Is it true, though, Canada has come out to say that no evidence gained through torture will be admissible in court? The UK does not have that, unfortunately.

I am not serprise at that,as the goings on of England are why very little ever matters enough to use the clause in the U.S.re:"Unusaly Puniashment",even though the u.S. is NOT England& it was long ago for most things cited, prior court ruleings on this along with Stare Decsis on this leave Americans& thus also the rest of the world open to much that is decidely not right&this can get worse yet.
Becasue of the status of being Stare Decisis, one is highly UNlikely to have any court re review this, let alone give a new ruleing on it,thugh in fact, this is not impossable.

Britain fought the Spanish Armada in 1588, among other things because they didn't want the Spanish Inquisition {with their Waterboarding torture} in England. Yes, Britain used Judicial Torture then, also; but nothing like on the scale of the Holy Inquisition.
What has happened? As someone else said, these revelations should be grounds for RESIGNATION, not insincere apologies.
The American CIA has used its unlimited funds to actively SUBVERT the up-and-coming politicians of the British Labor Party, so that it now PANDERS TO AMERICAN INTERESTS IN EVERY CASE.
It is no longer in any sense an independent party, representing either Labor, or the British people. It is a Front Group for American NeoCons.

Yes, Barbara, their shameless, wanton disregard for human rights and their complicity in torture has made a mockery of everything the Labour Party was supposed to stand for. Keir Hardie must be birling in his grave. I wish Tony Blair had never been born, really. Without him and his cravenness in the face of Bush this would never have happened. Harold Wilson refused to go into Vietnam even though he was under great pressure to do so.
