Are we more sustainable than ten years ago? In my opinion, no. Looking at it from a personal perspective, until I can once again go to any store and buy products made nearby (in the USA), preferably within a 200 mile diameter, and food produced locally, greatly reducing the fuel it takes to import all this junk from China or other far away places, I consider there is very little progress for sustainability. I also consider sustainability as in the negative column until I see my neighbors get their obese butts out of their cars to drive that I short block or two to the convenience store. Until walkers, joggers, and bicyclists, who are making a real effort to not the use car, but find another way to get around, are encouraged by their friends and neighbors instead of being ridiculed and thought of as "poor folks" (or license suspended for DUI, etc) who can't afford the "necessity" of a car, I consider that the idea of sustainability has failed to get into the minds of Americans. Until I see vegetable gardens flourishing all over my neighborhood as a rebellion against the garbage food they are sold in stores which are severely deficient in nutrition, I will consider that sustainability is not yet seen as a must-do in the American mind.

A lot more work has to be done to help keep this planet in one piece. Each one of us needs to step up with their own personal commitments towards sustainability and to continue putting more pressure on corporations to do more on their part.

Not in my town -houses are bigger, use of electricity has gone up (while population has not), number of vehicles is greater.
