You have GOT to be kidding? The only thing that I agree with in this whole article is:
The committee also said Obama has "created a new climate in international politics."

And from what we have seen by the world's actions, it HASN'T been a good one. I wonder how many of the people involved with this will benefit from the demise of the U.S.?

From the world perspective Obama has in fact made major diplomatic overtures...Cuba, Korea, Iran....he has said he chooses diplomacy, this is a message from the global community that we do not forget what the right wing in the US has done to the world as a whole, and we have been watching in disparity your right wing fanatics propagate misinformation about any move the president makes, not to mention the offensive racist things that have started to crop up bit by bit....we the world, have a right to an opinion on American politics as it has ruined the world economy under 8 years of Bush, stymied scientific advancement (ie: stem cell research) under *8 years of Bush, slowed alternative energy initiatives under 8 years of Bush, the world has suffered for the lack of forsight of the US...so a message has been sent, your political autonomy is yours but our world wide price was too high not to be heard loud and clear...

After many years this has been the only president to show humbledness with other nations ,because americans talk as if they own the world and up to now didn't care about any other human being, this guy is a real human being with good thoughts for others and is not moved by the billionares in north america. He is not a king but he talks about good things kings were never good they thought about themselves and the hell with the common people.

I agree with Litha Moon. It has been stated expertly as to what is and has been going on. The Republicans are acting in desperation as they hit the skids bringing shame and disgrace upon themselves and showing that the citizens mean nothing to their party. President Obama deserved the Nobel Peach Prize for not following the Bush and Cheney lead and for immediately showing the world how a decent, good President can be and is.

SO WHAT?

The nobel peace prize lost its credibility a long time ago - when it was awarded to war monger Henry Kissinger

in 1973.

I'M JUST SURPRISED they didn't chose Dick Cheney. In the simple little minds of the prize committee, he must rank as one of the major contenders!

The Politicization of Peace

http://www.americanthinker.com/2009/10/the_politicization_of_peace.html

Few spectacles so clearly show the politicization of life than the surreally silly award of the Nobel Peace Prize to Obama. The Nobel Prize has long been a reflection of the whims of those who run political correctness. The politicization of peace extends beyond just the Nobel Prize. ...

The very day that the Nobel Committee announced its choice of Obama, Code Pink co-founder Medea Benjamin miraculously “discovered,” eight years after American forces invaded Afghanistan that “If the U.S. troops left – the country would collapse. We’d go into civil war.” The about face on our domestic peace movement reflects only who now commands American forces. Benjamin likes Obama, so her doctrinaire commitment to peace goes wobbly when Obama is Commander-in-Chief.

Can a sitting president receive a Nobel Peace Prize?

http://tinyurl.com/yz4epf3

There’s a problem for President Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize victory and it’s not his inexperience. From Article I, Section 9 of “that neglected curio,” the U.S. Constitution:

“No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.”

A Wicked and Ignorant Award
How Barack Obama could help redeem the Norwegian Nobel Committee’s grievous mistake.
by Peggy Noonan

It is absurd and it is embarrassing. It would even be infuriating if it were not such a declaration of emptiness.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has embarrassed itself and cheapened a great award that had real meaning.

,,,,,His Holiness, The Dalai Lama, Nobel Prize "winner", disrespected by President Obama of the (still bloody) USA. We wouldn't want the Chinese to call-in their debt notes, would we? And, the same ol' good boys are still running the banks...no health care for millions, and unemployment is increasing...Congressional paralysis as lobbyists wheel and deal. Change? But imagine what it would be if McCain/Palin had Won! Nuclear Winter by now, probably. I hope Obama explains all of this to the Nation. Prime Time, with The Dalai Lama by his side.

Just a quick note to Kerry, President Obama is the third sitting President to win the Nobel Peace Prize, so I guess that either makes him eligible, or the other two past Presidents would have to give back their Nobel!?

Are there no limits to the childish tantrum antics Repugnicans will go to belittle, demean, undermine, and deligitimize the duly, legally, democratically elected President of the United States of America, Barack Obama? From the comments here and else where from the talking pints parrots, Cluster Faux News, Lardo Limbaugh, Glenn 'All tears no Facts'Beck and the Repugnican politicians/paid corporate employees the answer is obviously. NO! Nor does there seem to be a limit to the ignorance, ral or hyperbolic, that they are willing to prove to god and the world, to ensure that the shining symbol of their complete, abject and continuing failures to protect American security, 9/11 was on the Bush/Repugnican watch and they are responsible for the success of the single worst terrorist attack on American soil in history; to protect the American people and American economy from the rapacious unbridled unregulated greed of the Finance Cartels, see Phil and Wendy Gramm, or with their 'do not get sick or die quickly' approach to maintaining the status quo in complete disregard to 44,000 American deaths and 61% of all American personal bankruptcies each year due entirely to the cost of health care and the 'real death panels' of the Health insurance cartels; their lies, deceptions and incompetence that turned Afghanistan into another Viet Nam and started the Iraq war strictly for the profit of the American oil cartels and war profiteers, led by Cheneys' friends Halliburton and KBR, failed to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America by gutting the 'Bill of Right' with the illegal suspension of habeas corpus, massive warrantless illegal wire tapping, data mining, and electronic survailance of American citizens; is undermined or unsuccessful. They hope and cheer the failure of an America, that does not fit their bullying corporate profiteering agenda, around the world, they hope to continue the pain, death and indentured servitude of Americans and America for the profit of their corporate employers to futher their chances for a political return to power, that they will most surely abuse to the detrimant of Americans. The Repugnicans neither represent, protect nor work for the commonweal of the average mainstream American; they exist only to serve the minority exterme; the rich, the corporations, the Christian Taliban, the intolerant, the bigots, the misogynists, the homophobes, and the violent and the last two elections have shown that Americans know this. It really is truly sad that what was once long ago, but not since Eisenhower, a political party of ideas, intelect, dialogue and true statesmen with the best and betterment of all Americans and America at the heart of their politics has become the dangerous, divisive, hate mongering party of obstructionist hypocrites that advocates and cheers American failure in the hope that American unemployment, foreclosures, bankruptcies, economic disaster, and deaths will win them election and return them to power!
Oh, and as to Article 1 sectin 9 of the US Constitution, aside from the fact that it is completly irrelevant as the Nobel Committee is not part of the US government, it also specifically bans all 'Bill of Attainder' and that makes both the Repugnican written House 'Defund ACORN Act of 2009' and the as yet to hit the fan, I mean floor, the Senate bill 'Protect Taxpayers from ACORN Act', S 16787, totally unconstitutional and illegal, as they target specific person, persons, groups or organizations; ACORN because it is and has been a thorn in the side of the Repugnican party because of its voter registration of the poor, students and minorities that have the vile habit of tending to actively support and vote for Democrats, and has NEVER been convicted of voter fraud, unlike say the Bush DOJ found guilty of illegally targeting of ACORN for political prosecutions orYoung Political Majors in the paid employ of the CA GOP and YPM is still under investigation for voter registration fraud in MA, CN and AZ while in GOP employ, Oh and ANNe Coulter is still under investigation in CN; and as of yet investigation the questionable allegations of paid right-wing operatives have not been conclude, there have been no charges filed and no trials with no convivtions of any one for anything, just innuendo, smear tactics, misrepresentations and lies followed by a media stampede with no respectalbe investigative journalism and a political stampede of expediency. And ACORN is a pain in the profit margins of Corporate America, that you can bet are funding his non-profit smear and lie sites in legal secrecy, by successfully working for 'Living Wage' legislation in a growing number of states.

Oh, Lloyd. I am a Democrat and a liberal too, but enough of the name calling. How can Obama be considered a man of peace when we are still shedding blood in Afghanistan and Iraq?

Michael Rooney (5)
Sunday October 11, 2009, 3:02 am
Now this man has joined such names as: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Mother Teresa, Amnesty International, Carl von Ossietzky, Aung San Suu Kyi and Nelson Mandela. He’s better fit for one with mass murdering tyrants like Shimon Peres, Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson and Henry Kissinger. The 2009 Nobel Peace Prize puts the president on a list with all of them.

Look folks, Obama could hardly refuse to accept the award. He must have been as zapped as any of us. The guys to chase are the Nobel Committee. Whatever their reasons for bestowing this award someone is going to benefit. I feel that we need to lay off Obama and forget the whole Nobel thing. I'm sure he hopes everyone will, though the media will eat well off the issue for many a day !!

Did that Abolishing Torture bring peace between terrorists and their potential victims?

Cynthia Davis (244)

You didn't ask that. You asked "What did Obama do besides speeches." I just answered your question. Know one can bring peace between terrorist and their potetial victims, that's why they call them terrorists. Oh Ya he has also gotten our economy back on track or haven't you noticed the Dow Jones being up these days. He is ending the war in Iraq, and working to get much needed health care refrom in this country. I don't agree with all he has or hasn't done and I admit that there may be others more deserving of the Nobel but to say he has done nothing is just wrong.
