A vast swath of icy sea, barrier islands and coastal land on Alaska's oil-rich North Slope will be granted special protection because of its importance to the threatened polar bear, under a proposal released Thursday by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Well, I guess we can all be happy now, we have saved the Polar Bears from extinction by allowing them to roam on a piece of ice so we can get some more oil.

I just love the expresiions of all the experts stating things like, "it should not" or "is not supposed to" hinder the habitat of the bears, never stating "it WILL not". That sounds to me like a pretty strong waiver that if it does..........well, we tried. At least the environmentalist are happy!

What is overlooked is the fact that the food supply for the bears is deminishing rapidly and as a result, bears will have to travel great distances to find it. In no small part thanks to the overfishing Nations like it has no end in sight, Canada killing seals as if there are millions of them, a lot of Polar Bears are simply starving to death but of cours, that is of little concern to the oil Companies. I am almost ashamed of being Dutch knowing that my own Royal Dutch Shell is at the forefront of all this, even though I don't live there anymore.

I would like to have thought, now that we are all going green, we would not have this extreme need for oil anymore, I guess not and that is making me go purple. Instead of making and keeping friends with those countries that still have enough of that black gold to serve the world for a good little while to come, we are twisting and turning in ways that can not sustain widlife as we know it today, whatever little is left of it.

I have said it many times, we the people seem to think that whatever is or roams on this planet besides people, is here to serve us in any way possible, no matter to cost, no matter the toll.

But, to play copycat: " That is just my opinion, I could be wrong"!
