Scientists: Greenhouse Gas Cuts Should Start at Home

While much of the talk about curbing greenhouse gas emissions revolves around often painful steps for industry, a new report finds there's plenty you can do at home. Household energy consumption accounts for 38 percent of carbon emissions.....

This should be mandatory! (The gov. only tells people to conserve water for instance when we are already in a serious drought.) That is too late. We need to all act now! People need to be educated on this subject with more public messages and flyers mailed in an easy list form. Something they can check everyday until it is memorized. There are a lot of people that are not aware of this.
Thank you Katie

THE SUN DEFINES THE CLIMATE

(Habibullo Abdussamatov, Dr. Sc. - Head of Space research laboratory of the Pulkovo Observatory, Head of the Russian/Ukrainian joint project Astrometria - (translated from Russian by Lucy Hancock) Dr. Abdussamatov is featured on page 140 of the 2009 U.S. Senate Report of More Than 700 Dissenting Scientists Over Man-Made Global Warming.)

Key Excerpts: Observations of the Sun show that as for the increase in temperature, carbon dioxide is "not guilty" and as for what lies ahead in the upcoming decades, it is not catastrophic warming, but a global, and very prolonged, temperature drop. [...] Over the past decade, global temperature on the Earth has not increased; global warming has ceased, and already there are signs of the future deep temperature drop. [...] It follows that warming had a natural origin, the contribution of CO2 to it was insignificant, anthropogenic increase in the concentration of carbon dioxide does not serve as an explanation for it, and in the foreseeable future CO2 will not be able to cause catastrophic warming. The so-called greenhouse effect will not avert the onset of the next deep temperature drop, the 19th in the last 7500 years, which without fail follows after natural warming."

"Observations of the Sun show that as for the increase in temperature, carbon dioxide is "not guilty" and as for what lies ahead in the upcoming decades, it is not catastrophic warming, but a global, and very prolonged, temperature drop."

What observations? Has this scientist actually disproven the supposed heat retaining properties of CO2? What experimental procedures has he performed on samples of CO2? Where were his results published? Have other scientists attempted to duplicate his work to confirm his claims?

"Over the past decade, global temperature on the Earth has not increased...."

A decade ago was 1999. Global temperatures last peaked in 2005. Therefore, that scientist is a liar. There is no guarantee that the Sun will remain quiet and that's the only reason temperatures dropped slightly after 2005. If we don't work to stop the increases in CO2 over the next few decades, temperatures will continue to rise slowly no matter what the Sun does.

Climate depo - the denialist blog ..yawn.....

Solar activity & climate: is the sun causing global warming?

http://www.skepticalscience.com/solar-activity-sunspots-global-warming.htm

Climate myths: Global warming is down to the Sun, not humans

http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn11650-climate-myths-global-warming-is-down-to-the-sun-not-humans.html

IF AND WHEN IT STARTS TO COOL,then we might worry about that ... the the trend since at least the 1880's has been WARMING ... and it is likely to continue...

Climate myths: Any cooling disproves global warming

http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn17808-climate-myths-any-cooling-disproves-global-warming.html

Are we now experiencing global cooling?

http://www.skepticalscience.com/global-cooling.htm

"The so-called greenhouse effect will not avert the onset of the next deep temperature drop, the 19th in the last 7500 years, which without fail follows after natural warming."

Maybe, but the CURRENT warming trend is NOT NORMAL - we are a major player in the current warming trend - the addition of BILLIONS OF TONS of greenhouse gasses each year, at ever increasing rates clearly shows things are NOT "normal"....

Now back to the ACTUAL article before the denialist hijacking :)

Yes, there are many steps each and every one of us can take to address the climate crisis - we don't have to wait for the "learerds" to take action - each step counts and together we are making a difference...

Thank you Katie for reminding us about that message!

Hey gang there is a company making a product line that really "walks the talk" of environmental responsibility. You can all get to it simply. It is well recognized and has very low cost to use products that save big time on the empty containers too. Care2 can't stand brand promotion so I can't tell you here but contact me at folsom 1 steve at att dot net and you can have all of the details.
Hope you all have a great day!

Black roofs in cities -- on city buildings create and lose heat to the atmosphere also. And buildings in cities waste a lot of energy in lighting and heating. Think there should be more solar panels and "green roofs" with vegetation in cities.

Many people would be keen for solar and other green technologies if they knew what they were. People can feel a bit helpless if they don't know what to do. Citizens and businesses should be given a lot more information about and opportunities for carbon-free energies, simple solar solutions, recycling, saving water etc, which also save costs.
