Bush never did this, nor allow pictures of our fallen troops returning. I hate to see it, but we all need to do this. We all need to know the cost of war is more than just money. As a fellow disabled vet, I salute these heros.

It is nice to see the President recognising the sacrifice our brave forces make on a daily basis. I too salute their courage. It is good to see the US is moving away from sweeping the facts under that committee room carpet! We all, especially those of us whose nations are involved in the war need to be aware of both the individual family sacrfices of killed and wounded troops but also the tragic daily loss of innocent civilian life in the conflicts!

My heartfelt Prayers and Thoughts go out to these Military Families who have losted a LOVED one.

Nick I would just like to say that Yes Bush never did this exactly but he did spend time with Soliders families. No he never made it a public event as Obama has. I didnt have an issue with not seeing the coffins of our Dead Soldiers and I dont really have an issue with seeing them. I know what happens in War - it has hit way to close to home for me. I dont think seeing these coffins is good for some who are already on the edge b/c of these two wars.

I pray maybe Obama will hurry up and make up his mind what he is going to do about Afghanistan - he has kept McCrystal on hold for 3 months...3 months..........

I do have one question - Is Obama going to do this for all the fallen Soliders homecomings? What makes these Soldiers death worth his time?

Well done to Mr Obama... at least he is making an effort and shows that he cares for the troops and does have a heart.. and considers this an important welcome home

In my 66 years I have seen wayyyy too much bloodshed due to political shenanigans. As I write this I have a grandson who is a Marine .. my prayer is that he (and all our service members) return home safely and soundly. 'Nam, Afganistan and the Gulf Wars should never have happened .. greedy old men betrayed the youth of our Country for personal benefit. Now I hope we are on the path to finding new methods of dispute resolution. W acted on the "out of sight - out of mind" concept .. it is great to have a leader who acknowledges the human cost of war. Maybe .. just maybe .. we can build a better world for our children and frandchildren out of the devastation left in the wake of W.

Chaz "at least he is making an effort and shows that he cares for the troopos and does have a heart"...and who are you comparing him to? Will Obama be at every homecoming of falled Soldiers? Is he ready to make up his mind yet about sending more Troops or will he keep the General on hold even longer? What if extra Troops had been sent could the lives of these Soldiers been saved? We will never know.

I want our Troops home just as much as the rest - a dear friend 18 year old son just joined the Marines and graduated from Boot Camp...very proud of him but scared where he will end up and what he will see at such a young age.

Presidents sometimes do things for symbolic reasons, and this might be one. No, he won't be at all of them - weren't you just saying you wanted President Obama to hurry up and make up his mind on Afghanistan? So is it OK if he delays all his work to attend these homecomings? I guess that's not what you had in mind.

Bush was in a big hurry to get Saddam, in a big hurry to start a war we'd be stuck in for years, in a big hurry to make the war profiteers and military contractors rich, in a big hurry to be a war President to help his reelection, in a hurry to ditch out on Afghanistan to move resources to Iraq. Now we're all stuck with the messes he made in such a hurry. Wars are much easier to start than to end. It's time for us to stop being in a hurry and start getting things right. Bush never took a minute to engage his brain, such that it was. Why would we want President Obama to emulate THAT disaster of a mess of a brainless person?

President Obama very likely has a great reason for doing this at this time. You don't know what it is and neither do I, but why do you put a negative characterization on it without any facts? Maybe he felt in his heart that attending this would provide an additional perspective.

President Obama didn't put any of our soldiers in jeopardy and he would be a horses rump to listen to any data, any opinions, any input or any anything else that Bush/Cheney and the other war criminals left behind when they were sent packing. Lots of us have family members in the services and in the reserve. It makes more sense to be thoughtful and deliberative about this - particularly when lives are at stake. Besides, Bush/Cheney could have sent more troops ALL the timeS that they were requested to do that in Afghanistan - and they didn't because they over committed our military by invading Iraq on the basis of a pack of lies. Why be so negative about the people working around the clock to clean up the mess and really protect our service men and women?

JennyLynn - Obama is now President and just a few shorts months ago said the war in Afghanistan is the one to fight yet he's not doing what he said he would do. He would listen to his General - havent done that yet - he would bring troops home from Iraq -have not done that yet....

I never said it was bad that he met these Soldiers coming home. Trust me I think its great BUT it does raise the question - why? You may not want to question it but I do -

Bush/Cheney are gone - Obama is President, bringing up Buch/Cheney all the time isnt cutting it anymore. It is time for Obama to start making those hard decisions - he now knows what Bush/Cheney knew and Im sure he was like "oh snap"....history will be more kind to Bush/Cheney then you think. If Obama really wanted to - he could bring all our Troops home YET he hasnt, why?
