Unmoved By Protests, Nepal Set to Host Animal Sacrifice Fair

India's animal rights activist and politician Maneka Gandhi's protest and Nepal's 'Budhha Boy' Ram Bahadur Bomjan's appeal won't be able to prevent the sacrifice of nearly half-a-million animals at this month's Gadhimai Mela in this Himalayan nation.

Why is it thought that all animals are disposable? They are living beings that God put on this earth. They should have rights just like the "two legged beings". Some "four legged beings" are smarter than some "two legged beings"!!!!! God Bless our precious "four legged beings"!!

These people were slaves themselves and now have their freedom. Why is it that animals are still the slaves for mankind. Are we man enough to be kind to animals, or are we just people.

I have never heard of this before, and I don't believe it. It sounds like capitalist propaganda - spread by people in the capitalist media and Care2 who are hypocrits because most of them support killing animal themselves (for food, leather, when clearing land, etc.), as well as making wars for the greed of the capitalist class, and exploiting millions of humans to death each year.

Is it a coincidence that, as I write this, the 3 main Care2 world news topics are all about some of the few countries that are free of U.S. imperialist domination and U.S. exploitation? (E.g. Sudan, Iran and Nepal.)

They are constantly slandered by the U.S.A.'s capitalist media, and many U.S. citizens unthinkingly regurgitate the words of their capitalist masters. This is not alternative news. This is merely a repetition of what we get on the mainstream TV, radio and newspapers. Why do you plaster it all over our Care2 alternative media website, too??? What is the point of repeating it here??? We hear the imperialist propaganda from your capitalist ruling class constantly anyway!!!

The supporters of the USA (and India) are completely hypocritical when they criticise Nepal.

The USA (with its support for coups, support for oppressive regimes, support for proxy wars, and its own direct wars and economic plunder of the Third World), is the most destructive nation on earth. The USA kills millions of people each year, and causes suffering to billions of people. (And India's capitalist system is one in which millions of people in the exploiter class live in luxury, while hundreds of millions of other people are so impoverished by that exploiter class, that they live on the edge of death, and millions of children in India die each year from that poverty.)

The words of one of Eric Clapton's "Unplugged" songs could be justly sung by the people of Iran, and the world, to the people of the USA and India:

"before you accuse me, take a look at yourself!"

Sorry, I meant to write:

The words of one of Eric Clapton's "Unplugged" songs could be justly sung by the people of NEPAL, and the world, to the people of the USA and India:

"before you accuse me, take a look at yourself!"

Maria - there is a petition against this abomination here -

http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/stop-gadimai.html

And my goodness, Simon, how strange, just because you haven't heard of something, doesn't mean it doesn't exist!

And if you care to do a google search, you will find ample further information.

My god is this for real?! What sort of god or goddess would want such cruelty done in their name? The image on the link made me feel physically sick!

Sorry, Simon, but please, wake up. Your 'don't believe it' was pretty small-minded. As Pam said, "just because you haven't heard of something, doesn't mean it doesn't exist". Gadimai really exist since always, you better search for it. As you see, it's a so alternative news that you never heard about the event before, it's not in our newspapers!
Please, it's not about capitalism and USA, it's about an animal genocide, about animal cruelty and animal rights, about religion, beliefs and traditions.

I'm sorry if I was rude, and I don't wanna take this too far, but... Hello? Propaganda? Have mercy on me.

Right on Marina - "it's not about capitalism and USA" - amazing how that could have been dragged into this discussion!

And mate - YOU have nothing to apologise for!
