"A "deluxe" edition of the new book, which has a first printing of 100,000, will be printed on paper that contains "100 percent post-consumer waste fiber.""

it's great what they're doing... but why not go all the way?
if they can print 100,000 on 100% post-consumer
then why not print them all without having to
cut - one - tree....?
i'd rather signing a petition to ask them to go all the way...
if publications like this used 100% post-consumer
the sheer volume would make it easier for
the rest of the publishing industry to make the transition...
either way, we don't need to cut one more tree for paper products
books, magazines, newspapers, card & paper board, paper towels, tissue, toilet paper, packaging, etc......
sustainably managed forests or not
we could make paper more efficiently with alternative fibers & recycling....
& consumers should demand it from the industry!!!

Hey Joe, sort of a good idea , thanking them, however, the Canadian publisher of all of the Harry Potter books, Raincoast Books, has only used 100% postconsumer recycled papaer for each copy, right from the beginning. Food for thought there. Rick

Thanks for noting this story Joe!!! I think it's wonderful that Scholastic has taken this step; not only does a wonderful story that has brought kids to reading again come to a close, but the company publishing it takes a stand on environmental issues!!! it doesn't get too much better than that! I signed the Petition, and am glad to be one who supports this company!!! Let's hope they follow suit with all the academic textbooks that they publish!!!
