Legislation: Georgia's "Ethical Treatment of Human Embryos Act" seeks to define an embryo as a person and ban the creation of an embryo for scientific research in the state and would also prevent the destruction of fertilized embryos for any reason.

You know why this is stupid? First off, opponents like to say that embryos are human life but technically they are not. Doesn't even the Bible say that life is in the blood? Well, embryos don't make blood until what about 20 days after that supposed "conception". Embryos are frozen right after that "conception" part so there is NO blood in them. That fixes the ethical question right there.

Personally I don't consider a tiny lump of cells a "human life". They were not conceived through any natural means they were poked with needles that contain cells in them. Or however the process works. For some reason the opponents don't want science to advance at all in this country. For many people this is about creating life saving medical treatments.

People who own the embryos should be allowed to decide for themselves what they want to do with left over embryos. If they want to donate them to science then so be it, if they do not believe in embryos being used for science then keep them but don't ban it for other people who should be allowed to choose for themselves what to do with them.

And throwing away perfectly fine embryos in the garbage is FAR MORE DISRESPECTFUL to the life of the cells, than using them for science.

If they're going in the trash, why not use them for research? Ignorance and political selfishness will be the death of us.

I agree. I also think if the Alabama legislature really believes human life starts at conception, then they should add another 9 months to everybody's age on their driver's licenses lol.

Oops, I meant Georgia, not Alabama.

Sometimes I'm embarrassed to live in Georgia - they do have some really dumb ideas here. I think I'll steal your idea, Tom, of adding 9 months to everyone's age when I write to the editor....
