Prayers and Blessings to Barack Obama and his family during this time of grief. She obviously loved him dearly and will be sorely missed by him. It is too bad that she was not able to stay here long enough to possibly see her grandson become the first bi-racial president of the United States should he win tomorrow.

I agree with Gail. It is too bad that she couldn't hang on just a little bit longer to see if he wins tomorrow. But I know she is certainly with him right now in spirit. My prayers and deepest condolences to the Obama Family. Thanks Jodi, sadly noted.

I'm so glad Obama was able to see her before she passed away, and I'm glad she was able to witness the possibility of her grandson becoming the next president. She did well in how she raised him with the values we need at this time to lead this country. She led a purpose-filled life and is a role-model for us all. My condolences to the Obama family.

Thank you for the link, Margi. And thank you for this post, Jodi!

Yes, so sad that she didn't live to see him elected. But she is watching after him from above, and is no longer suffering. We should be celebrating a life well lived and loved. Death is not the end, just another beginning.

Sending smoke....it was good he did get to visit with her and took that time to do so. I'm sure she mentioned to him how proud she was he was a very valid candidate for the Presidency. She will know the outcome but I'm sorry for him he will not have her to personally tell.

Those who say today they still don't know who this man is...what more can he show us?

There stood dignity, character, grace, and warmth .

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. - Martin Luther King Jr.

He IS the best tribute to Mrs. Dunham.

[p.s. This evnt puts the RNC attack on Obama flying to Hawaii to "see Grandma" in perspective. these are the same folks who laughed on camera (at a Palin gathering during the VP debate) when Joe Biden teared up when talking of his deceased wife and daughter. I have no real problem with different political outlooks, however, the mean-spirited nature of today's GOP is a little hard to take.]

Thank you Blue...When he took the time to see her he was put down as if he was off on holiday. His actions then spoke volumes as to who this man was, and earned my respect.May Barak have peace and comfort in the knowledge that he gave her the greatest gift possible...a vision of change.

A bittersweet time for Obama. Hopefully today his biggest triumph but it's also one of the saddest times of his life. Very sad.
