AN ELDERLY dog which narrowly missed being run over by a lorry after being heartlessly dumped at the side of the road refused to budge for rescuers - hoping its owners would come back.

There is just no excuse to abandon any animal by the roadside, this dog was so lucky to be noticed and not killed.I hope someone finds it in their heart to give a home to such a lovely loyal dog.We may all be in a financial mess but to abandon a dog by the side of the road is truly Heartless.

I can't believe her former owners didn't take better care of her. They probably dumped her because they didn't want to spend anymore money on her. It doesn't seem like they were spending much anyway. I wonder if she did ever see a vet while they had her? I totally do not understand this. I've only had my cat for 22 months & in these almost two years I've had her I've spent over $1,000 in vet care for her, including a professional dental cleaning. Who knows how much I've spent on food, toys, treats etc as well.

Money over life--I read these stories way too often. This story just hurts my heart. The poor old girl-waiting for her humans that didnt treat her well anyway. They didnt deserve that kind of loyalty. I hope they never get another animal-but they probably already have. Sad news. Thank you for sharing this sad story.

What a sad story. How can humans be so heartless - and she, Doris, was so true to them anyway! All three of my animal companions are old and I would never think of abandoning them alongside a road, or for that matter, anywhere. My oldest, a cat of 20 years, will be put down, at home, if he's in pain. Otherwise, I'll keep him till the end. And, how I treat my cat, I will also treat my dogs. They've all given me unconditional love, and it's my responsibility to give them what I can to make a good life for them in return. I hope Doris finds a wonderful loving home for her final days, and has the dental care that she needs.

I can't believe people can be this heartless...... But they are. Poor dog. Wish I could provide her with a loving home, but I'm in the US & can't..... Poor dog, the person who did this should be punished.

What's wrong with bloody people? Poor old girl, thank goodness she didn't get killed or badly hurt. It makes one sick to read stories like this.

Refusing to budge tells you, in part, just why this lovely mutt should not have been abandoned for a heartbeat: she's a loyal, true friend and companion, with a good soul, and a loving heart. No way in hell I would ever leave my dog/cat/etc. behind, elderly or no--ain't gonna ever happen. Here's to a happy ending for her, and all those like her.

people act like animals are disposable, they deserve the same treatment

We have say here: Save the animals, shoot the owners!

Because punishments for these kinds of acts are next to nil, people who can actually do this, you think they are going to care?

So very sad, wish I could take Doris in, but know that is impossible. I will do all I can do to protect the animals in my care. I guess it is the best I can do. I so very much wish I could do more. I keep telling myself "You can't save the world, but you can save some helpless, voiceless animals". I try to help the animal victims at Noah's Ark rescue as much as I can. So many sad stories in the news.

The cruelity of "un"humans never ends. My next door neighbors {who I thought were just great people} received a large sum of money by a deceased relative 4 years ago. The day they received the check, they purchased a new car and left. They left behind their 5 cats and 4 dogs as well. I wonder why they they took their 2 young boys?!? ALL of the cats "adopted" a neighbor on our street and we all got the dogs in healthy and happy homes. My dad loves his little muttley! BUT, I was the luckiest! CLAW {now renamed Claw-dene} adopted me. She was 21 years old {now 25}. She is amazingly healthy, although I've spent thousands as she requires certain meds. She is the sweetest love-a-muffin on the planet...past,present and future! Every time I saw the sweet cat she was in one of the boys loving arms. I guess that is how she endured the trama of her life. When the owner came by after they vacated he saw the condition of the house. The ceiling had collapsed in the LR & DR due to rat infestation. The kitchen, hallway, den,etc was over 6 feet high, 10 feet long in feces. Both toilets ripped out of the floor....on and on and on. They had rented for 19 years and the house had to be demolished. The saddest part of this story...Claw-dene spent all day every day just staring at the home, waiting for her owners to come home! My little fur ball's WISH IS MY COMMAND. I'd give her a kidney....wink!

70 bucks a week - real chicken
50 bucks a week - real lamb
180 bucks - dry food for 3 months
50 buck - treats for a month
50 bucks a week - pizzas

All for the 2 dogs in our family. And I do not eat meat. Our family works for the dogs. It does not matter whether we eat less than them. But the important thing, they have to eat. And that makes me happy. Financial mess or not.

It is sad that some people do not appreciate the love and loyalty of animals in their care. I have a little Pom mix that I found wandering near a very busy state highway where I work. For 3 days she was there wandering around and I finally rescued her. she appeared to be well cared for. she had no collar or tags. she was just the most adorable, loving little dog. So why was she abandoned? When i took her to my Vet to get her checked over...... She had heart worms. They had obviously abandoned her to die an agonising death from heart worm infestation, because they didn't want to have her treated. Heart worm prevention medication would have been a less expensive choice. I had her treated and she has been with us for 2 yrs now. Surely there will be someone that will also take in this lovely dog and give her a warm loving home. She deserves it.

What is in the mind of people like this, who just abandon pets when they become too much trouble!? I have an adopted Mini Schnauser (my third), and although we've had him four years now, there are still some long lasting fears he has. He was found wandering, probably in the neighborhood he was abandoned in. We had just lost our second Mini, about 11 months earlier, and were just thinking about adopting again. On some sort of a "whim" Jim went into our towns shelter and asked if they by any chance had a Mini. They said they just had one come in the day before. He took me to meet Puppy, and we were proud new parents once again. Whenever I think of what this lovable dog must have gone through, I get so angry to think of something to cause such fears in a dog.

Sorry guys, next to the environment, animal abuse/neglect are close number one's on my list, so I tend to get a bit emotional about these things.

Dogs, like children, are often considered an essential accessory. An old mutt isn't attractive and needs more care than the owner is prepared to give. We are in the runup to Xmas so there will be many more like Doris and, in the New Year, lots of puppies and kittens.

My hubby wants to foster an abandoned pet for Xmas pet so we are talking to the charities about it.
