Earlier this week, officers found the yellow lab with several collars embedded in its neck at Crenshaw's home on Evelyn Drive outside Conway. The dog's injuries were potentially deadly because of where they were on its body.

The dog will be ok, because not only does it seem she is getting good treatment, but dogs are amazing at being in the present and having the capacity to love and trust again in time. What isn't ok, is people who commit these crimes often go back out and might get another animal. Permanent restraining orders against ever having a pet again needs to be enforced.

indeed this man should never be allowed again to own an animal just to chain it up and neglect it. let him have a pet rock.

"A good man takes care of his animals, but wicked men are cruel to theirs." Proverbs 12:10

This man is simply a wicked owner, he should be banned from owning animals for life. Well done to the lady who brought this story to light. Let the light shine on the darkness of these wicked, evil people.

All animals belong to God (Psalm 24:1).

There needs to be stronger penalties for these horrendous crimes.....neglect is just as bad as if the person took a knife and cut the dog's neck.

Penalties against such cruelty should be much harsher. What kind of a person could allow an animal to wear something that gets so tight that it cuts through the animal's flesh ? And then just put another collar on top until the same thing happens over and over. It's disgusting. What a lovely, friendly dog. Yet again, dogs and their friendly demeanour and forgiving nature show the monsters who hurt them for what they really are. Animals so often put people to shame. Well done those who saved this lovely dog.

OMG! Poor dog. How he must have suffered. Good thing he's recovering now with medication and looks happy. The owner needs to be locked up for a very long time!

To activists in this area: put his picture and his abuse all over the neighbourhood and town! Everyone should know what kind of rotten SOB he is.

As long as such GIGANTIC amounts of our nation's dollars are going to MURDER STRANGERS in wars all over the globe - dropping bombs on weddings, hospitals and schools - we are not going to have enough finds available for anything good including TOUGHENING LAWS AND STRENGTHENING ENFORCEMENT - for animals and for humans. If you care about animals you need to help stop the war-mongering and USA weapons-dealing too.

He should be thrown in prison & the keys destroyed. Obviously this horrific cruelty was intentional. He needs to face severe consequences & never be allowed to have a dog.

What this poor dog went through at the hands of the one that was supposed to care for him. People need to be responsible for the animals they take in, they are supposed to become part of your family. The laws need to be stricter on people that do things like this to animals, no more of the"it's just an animal", it is a loving, trusting, living and breathing creature that feels all the emotions we do and depends on us for care. Stop letting people get away with this abuse.

good for the old lady who fed him. Probably afraid of the nutcase retaliating against her if she had pets. Thank God for someone else having the courage to turn him in (probably was the old lady..but we won't rat her out). There should be periodic un announced sherrif drop ins on this barfbag to make sure he doesn't have any animals on his premises. Better yet...lock him up with the unibomber! Or who ever is a Jeffrey Daumer copycat, and give that guy a bottle of hot sauce to go with his new meal companion!

recent update! Examiner states Len Crenshaw says it wasn't HIS fault! That he was teaching his sons (age?) pet responsibility...that THEY were responcible for the collars! uh, because they were kids and didn't know any better! yeah, right.
Pass it off on your kids that are underage, you dirtbag! Let them take the blame. What a man! So with this tear jerking plea "don't send me to jail...I uh, I have kids! they..uh...they are the ones! (big show of blubbering ) I never thought they'd do such a thing" yada yada yada. How much do you want to bet the mother f-r will not spend a day in jail?

Glad he was charged with a felony. Trying to blame his kids doesn't wash. As the adult, HE is ultimately responsible for the welfare of that animal. They'll probably just slap him on the wrist. This dirt bag and his brats should have to live outside in the cold with collars embedded in their necks.

Gloria, I quite agree with you there! I think it's great to teach kids responsibility for taking care of pets, but the ultimate responsibility lies with the parents! Years ago, when helping brush my daughter's big hairy dog (half Black Lab, half St. Bernard & Akita......looked like a Newfie), I found what appeared to be some kind of "string" under all the matted hair and began "digging". The dog was so adept and determined to wallow in mud, swampland (which surrounded my property) and anything containing water, he didn't get groomed as often as he should have been if he'd been more of an "inside" dog, and nobody had noticed this before. It turned out that my grandson had put one of those big, thick rubber bands around his neck at some point in time and it had grown into his skin! My daughter and I were very upset, and after removing it (which took hours due to the heavy coat and the fact it was embedded into his skin), we took him inside, bathed him, shaved the area around his neck and put disinfectant on it. He healed just fine. My daughter was very angry and upset at her son, but like I told her, she was ultimately to blame since she hadn't bothered to oversea what had been done as far as handling. At the time, my grandson was only 5, and to this day (he's 29 years old now), he feels bad when he sees photos of himself with "Bear". It all turned out fine, and it WAS an "accident", but still!

BTW, I find this article a bit bordering on IRRESPONSIBLE JOURNALISM in that it doesn't state where this happened. It mentions Conway, and a county. I live in Washington State. There is a small town called "Conway" near me, but that is NOT the correct county........it's obviously somewhere else, but WHERE?

Hopefully someone will put a small, non-removable, TIGHT BELT around his very fat GUT and neck and he either starves himself (which is not likely)OR expands and cuts off his own circulation and bye-bye.

Seen it a million times and every case is worse then the last. Chain him up in the cold with no food or water till he dies. Or at the very least fine him a lot of money all going to an animal shelter, make him pay for every meal and toy that dog will use until its adopted and lock him up for several years then ban him from owning an animal and having children. I'm sick of animal welfare being treated as a joke.

This idiot might want the dog back. I hope this will not happen and that he will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and go to prison. There must be follow up on this person so that he is never allowed to bring another pet into his home.

Lee M. said, "Hopefully someone will put a small, non-removable, TIGHT BELT around his very fat GUT and neck and he either starves himself (which is not likely)OR expands and cuts off his own circulation and bye-bye "...I actually re-watched the video twice to see if the owner was shown. I've observed several times that in animal neglect cases, where horses or dogs are being starved, often the case is where the owner hasn't missed a meal in a decade, but honestly, the video doesn't show the owner at all. So, I'd ask Lee how do you know the owner has a "fat gut"? I'm NOT down-playing the fact that the owner was stupid and irresponsible (been there & done that in a way as described in my previous comments), but let's stay on topic. Just an "FYI", what my daughter's dog suffered never was this severe. And, I have seen worse on Animal Planet. It seems to result from stupidity. Somebody puts a larger collar on a growing dog and doesn't remove the smaller one. Many times, it's a "choke chain" which a dog should never be tied up with in the first place.

BTW, that's not a Yellow Lab. That dog obviously has some Shepherd or other mix in him. NOt that it matters.
