They were too late to save one of the animals, a cat, but found a large dog clinging to life and suffering from symptoms of severe heat exhaustion.

Within minutes, the pets' owner, a guest at the Waterloo Inn, was led away in handcuffs, and animal cruelty officers were launching an investigation.

The dog was rushed to a local veterinarian for emergency treatment, said Kathy Innocente, spokesperson for the K-W Humane Society. The animal's condition was considered stable last night.

The owner of the pets, whose Toyota Corolla was left sitting in the parking lot with a smashed rear window last night, has been interviewed by investigators. Innocente wouldn't release any information about her because the investigation is continuing.

Hotel staff said the woman had been at the inn for two nights but had not requested a room on the ground floor, where pets are allowed.

The stupidity and cruelness of this woman makes me so angry! RIP little cat... hope the dog will be alright and find a good home with someone who will care for him. Thanks Maria.

I know for a fact that I wouldn't be able to stand by - I'd smash the window myself if need be.

This woman needs a lesson on how that feels. Sorry, but I hope she gets the maximum.

I hope this stupid woman is treated as she justly deserves. She should be fined and imprisoned for animal cruelty. God bless the little cat that died and I hope the dog survives please God.

I hope this awful woman gets the maximum punishment! That poor cat - may it rest in peace. And hopefully the dog will recover and go to a better home, with people who know how to treat animals properly!

as a person that has stayed in hotels and traveling with pets, I know that it only costs approx. $10.00 extra to get a room that allows pets. If this person can not afford to take care of pets properly she should not be allowed to have them!! We are going on vacation soon and we have a little dog that has seizures. Because we can't afford boarding, we are having a pet sitter come to our home. It's common sense!! YOu do what you can for your pets, after all my pets are like my own children.

I feel that a substantial amount of money should be fined also community work directly related to pets and a warning of future incarceration if done again.

There's no excuse for what she has done. Just plain self-interest and cruelty. Probably only feels bad that she was caught with no feelings toward the animals. I have 5 dogs and would never allow something like this to happen
