Ok the "bail out"hasn't gone through, not yet anyway. This Michael Moore piece ,is still worth a read though..Moore highlights how this bill is just another, act of blatant robbery, from this ruling kleptocracy ,that some people call a government.

Excellent article by Moore and a call to action.

I have one issue with his statement:

Moore said, "The number one cause of people declaring bankruptcy is because of medical bills. " While this could be true, it's only part of the problem. Higher gas, inflation, rising food and consumer goods, utility and cost of living prices all contributed to people declaring bankruptcy. Keep in mind, Moore is promoting his project for healthcare. While this is a worthy cause, he is not looking at the big picture. Other than that, it's a excellent piece.

I'm going to repeat Moore's call to action here in case some miss it:

"I have to stop writing this and you have to stop reading it. They are staging a financial coup this morning in our country. They are hoping Congress will act fast before they stop to think, before we have a chance to stop them ourselves. So stop reading this and do something -- NOW! Here's what you can do immediately:

1. Call or e-mail Senator Obama. Tell him he does not need to be sitting there trying to help prop up Bush and Cheney and the mess they've made. Tell him we know he has the smarts to slow this thing down and figure out what's the best route to take. Tell him the rich have to pay for whatever help is offered. Use the leverage we have now to insist on a moratorium on home foreclosures, to insist on a move to universal health coverage, and tell him that we the people need to be in charge of the economic decisions that affect our lives, not the barons of Wall Street.

2. Take to the streets. Participate in one of the hundreds of quickly-called demonstrations that are taking place all over the country (especially those near Wall Street and DC).

3. Call your Representative in Congress and your Senators. (click here to find their phone numbers). Tell them what you told Senator Obama.

When you screw up in life, there is hell to pay. Each and every one of you reading this knows that basic lesson and has paid the consequences of your actions at some point. In this great democracy, we cannot let there be one set of rules for the vast majority of hard-working citizens, and another set of rules for the elite, who, when they screw up, are handed one more gift on a silver platter. No more! Not again!"

In fairness to Moore,I have seen others touting health costs, as the number one reason for bankruptcy .Excellent post though Marion, and you do lay out the options for response very succinctly.I am becoming increasingly angry about how, blame is being apportioned to the poorer citizens, who overstretched themselves when buying their houses .Hell these companies are skilled in manipulation and sleight of hand, they were in the position of power, not the house-buyers.
The poor are suffering, the working class are suffering ,the middle class are suffering. To be honest though,im never quite sure what middle class is,when ??The gulf is widening, and the so called middle,is finding that it has similar interests to the bottom, not the top.."Hard working citizens"is how you sum it up Marion..and that is the majority..in every country (to be honest id rather not work so hard, but thats another story)..no platinum parachutes for the masses,no golden goodbye's or emerald exits..just a one way ticket to Palookaville..and a none existent welfare safety net.
The sad irony is that people have been on the receiving end of propaganda ,saying that those on welfare are parasites. Many beleived that (despite for example, welfare payments propping up the low low wages, of our lovely sponsors Walmart).
Now many more people will be deservedly wanting, and desperately needing that cash,to survive..but it's not there.Instead to pay for the war,the tax cuts and the subsidies, welfare has been slashed to the bone.
Get out there educate,activate,organise...some of the former "Zombies for Bush" ,must be waking up..surely..
I wish that we would get wiser in the UK too..the failure of Bush's lapdogs B-Liar and Brown, seems to have pushed many towards a worst alternative..rule by aristocrats..

NO TO THE BAILOUT!, period.

Call or e-mail to your congresscritters ASAP, NOW.

Another reason for declaring bankruptcy are those pesky credit cards.

700 Billion dollars buys a lot of Health Cares.

Yes, the same amount, from what I understand, in Social Security is about 700 Billion Dollars.

Let us not forget that the pukes and his cronies wanted to privatize Social Security into Wall Street.

Look at the mess that was created by the "new" medicare program under the bush "plan".

And least we all forget, the "WAR".

Can anyone say the word "Fascist"... shh (hush)...

The coup staged by the rich was started in the 1930's by wealthy oil moguls (along with another powerful group I shall not mention...many of you know of what group I am referring to) with diabolical plan upon plan starting to approach their main goal; however failing time and again due to "those damn tree-hugging liberals" in congress, the senate or both.

During the George H.W. Bush administration, such goal came closer to being a reality after "Operation Desert Storm" oozed past congress, only to be thwarted by the U.N.

No such luck with Jr.'s administration. With such tools as the 9-11-'01 terrorist attacks, making such a devastating bill as The Patriot Act possible... (And there are those who do not believe the 9-11'01 attacks were carried out by terrorists. I strongly disagree. But what is a terrorist? Well, here is a definition via "Wikipedia": "the calculated use of violence (or the threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature; this is done through intimidation or coercion or instilling fear" (funny, Wikipedia is supposed to be so concise - they forgot to throw in anything mentioning the "Middle East"!...tsk'

So a war with Iraq was the (after all, most of those damn terrorists were Aye-rackees"... Well "they" say that them terrorists that got on our planes and killed all them people were from Soddy Arabia and some place called Yimmen, but ya know how them damn liberals like to smear the truth.

So a U.S. war against Iraq was again waged - and this time WON, with our great "commander-in-thief" arriving onto an aircraft carrier sporting a banner which stated "Mission Accomplished" (Oops, didn't count on those damned ole' insurgents jumping the Iraqi borders to treat our brave soldiers like "ducks in a shooting gallery".

Kinda hard to establish military bases in Iraq to prepare for war on Aye-Ran since "we" took over Iraq, took out both of Hussein's sons, then finally found Saddam hiding out in a hole in the ground! (Our blood an guts leather-neck Marines even brought Bush Husseins pistol to put on his wall - hey he didn't have no horns to mount as a trophy)

Oh crap...did I say something about setting up bases to get ready to attack Iran? Iraq - Iran, I get those two mixed up sometimes.

OK back to reality: With so much tax payer money going for billions of dollars to fund the war effort (fighten' them over there so we don't have 'em comin' over here ta start their shit!), including the millions plus taking care of Special Interest groups, etc. and rewarding the top income brackets of tax payers and Big Business a hefty income tax refund...though after tax cuts...twice... to the wealthy and Big Business (they should be taken care of, right? After all, they are the "Elite", of whom this great country would not be such without...besides, since they finance so much of the GOP campaign funds thru "personal donations", it's only fair!

So, with so much money coming from the Federal Reserve for so much "necessary expenditures", another 700 Billion could put the U.S. in such a hole that this country would be "broke", and be thrust into Martial Law (Of course this country is the greatest Super Power in the world, is it not?? I mean come on!! If you think Martial Law is possible, just go to "the Google" and type in "March, '08 secret meeting on Martial Law" That will surely get that concept from your head.

But "obviously since I don't think it's right for big banks to get such a hand-out, and what would happen if I would go broke - No Fair!"

Congress put a nix on the plan with a rather slim margin, as the House has a greater majority of Democrats, than does the Senate. So HOPEFULLY the senate will follow suit! If not, I fear that somehow, someway this alleged Bail Out is going to get "pushed on thru", much as the Iraq war did, though the U.N. opposed.

If the Bail Out is passes...WE ARE FUCKED!!

And soon after, the coup of the wealthy shall soon be a harsh reality. aka "Make way for the NWO"!

Growth, developement, traffic, high oil prices, are all related to this issue. Unbridled capatilism spreads like a cancer absorbing all the worlds resorces in its quest for consumption. Then as supply and demand kicks in prices rise beyond all our means. To prevent or slow the ultimate demise of all societies we need to slow growth and consumption untill we can formulate new societies that function with limited energy supplies. The alternative is oil costing more and more then fought over and chaos.

Excellent comments all! Wolf Eldridge...outstanding perspective, with humor. Thank you!

Americans like to think we are lone mavericks and can do as we place. Until we learn that that ethical behavior and integrity at home, in our relationships AND in Washington is the only way to live and run a country, we will be a plague on the world.

Lying, cheating, stealing and greed run rampant throughout American society and is a way of life here. It's in our schools, churches, homes, businesses, local government and now highly visible and exploding in our federal government. Our nation's leaders should represent our values as a role-models and our image to the world. That old saying, 'you get what you pay for' is exactly what we have gotten from our leaders.

Congress, Bush and the media are all blaming each other for this catastrophe. They're all correct. I would add the American people are complicit for their apathy and greed.

The chickens have finally come home to roost...

I want to update my previous response, re. "If the bailout passes, we are F****D"

After witnessing our "imperious leader" making a brief televised appearance on the main-stream media, stressing the need for the bailout, and reviewing other information pertaining to such, it strongly appeared that the current administration was attempting to pass this staggeringly expensive (and vastly ear-marked) bill as a means to possibly cripple the federal reserve, which indeed could and certainly would result in dire consequences. But after the bill was rejected with a wide majority in the house of representatives, the bill was "sweetened" prior to being put before the Senate for vote. This adjustment, as submitted by the White House, was, and I quote: "Added tax cuts, which would appeal to Senate Republicans".

I found such a "carrot" to be rather odd, since the Senate holds a Democratic majority, and since it was soooooo important for this bill to be passed?!?! Hmmmm

And as the stock market further plunged after word got out of the House rejection, it became frighteningly obvious to myself, that this was just another "dirty trick" by the true axis of evil; setting up the bail out bill to fail, as the stock market could very possibly "crash" as a result. Which would have easily resulted in blame being bestowed by the administration unto the Democrats in both the House of Representatives and Senate, in which the administration could have taken measures via Martial Law, with assistance of the conservative majority "Supreme" Court, and thus booted all Democratic Representatives and Senators from congress. And I don't believe I need to further explain the consequences which would follow in such an event.

Fortunately I was not alone in this horrific concern. A group of Senate and House Democrats; including H. OBAMA and J. BIDEN, along with a few GOP senators and congress-persons, arranged an almost all-night meeting, prior to the Senate vote the following day. Thus, the Senate voted to pass the bill, followed by congresses about face, with the Bill being passed.

Talk about DODGING A BULLET!!

Seeing the president on television as he announced the bill was passed, his disappointment was quite evident. ;)

We the people, are very fortunate we have members in both the Senate, and Congress (fortunate few) who are actually doing their job expected of them in defending the tattered Democracy and Civil Rights we have remaining.

Unfortunately, we are far from safe. This administration is not gone, nor do they desire to hand over the presidency.

Their Master Plan (which has been in motion for many years prior to the Reagan administration) has not been realized, and such plan will doubtfully ever have the chance to re-emerge if they lose power. They are brutally aware of such.

Many of you are painfully aware of what I'm referring to in the afore mentioned, as there are "political loopholes", that if they are able to achieve, they can remain in office after Jan. of '09 (yes, scary thought; however...).

And Thank you again, Marion, and the rest of the true "Freedom Fighters" who strive to project the all important concept of AWARENESS! We search long and hard for the truth, realizing it will not simply come to us while sitting in our comfortable chairs while we absorb "News" from television mass media.

And Blue Ape: The "group" of which I was referring in my previous post, sought to gain world power thru very creative propaganda, gaining wealth to fund their war efforts via theft and murder of mass groups of their own citizens, as they desired to spread like an evil amoeba thru-out the world with the same intent, in their megalomaniacal quest for greed, destruction and ultimate domination. Hitler and his "axis of evil" failed.

AWARENESS=POWER!!
