I remember Entebbe well as the Israelis showed the world how a rescue is suppose to work.

Considering that this is a BBC article, it's not bad. The Israeli rescue team was very brave and intelligent. So many rescues have terrible consequences for those being "rescued."

Something else that I think should be remembered. In a 2003 article in the NYT, Idi Amin, was the murderous and despotic ruler of Uganda. He even had one of his wives murdered.

"Idi Amin, whose eight-year reign of terror in Uganda encompassed widespread killing, torture and dispossession of multitudes and left the country pauperized, died yesterday in Jidda, Saudi Arabia, where he had lived for years in exile. He was believed to have been about 78 years old, though some reports said he was as old as 80.

For much of the 1970's, the beefy, sadistic and telegenic despot had reveled in the spotlight of world attention as he flaunted his tyrannical power, hurled outlandish insults at world leaders and staged pompous displays of majesty.

By contrast, his later years were spent in enforced isolation as the Saudi Arabian authorities made sure he maintained a low profile. Mr. Amin, a convert to Islam, his four wives and more than 30 children fled Uganda just ahead of an invading force of Ugandan exiles and Tanzanian troops that overthrew his government. They went first to Libya, and eventually to Saudi Arabia."

During the Amin regime, thousands of Ugandans were tortured and hacked to death following Amin's orders. Rivers of blood flowed. I think I remember that he also had a venereal disease.

Is it any surprise then, that he found refuge in Saudi Arabia.

So Islamic terrorism wasn't new even back then. It has been with the world since Mohammed decided his voices told him to found a religion by the sword and commanded his thuggish followers to kill all non-Muslims, especially Jews, and conquer the whole world for his hateful deity. 1400 years and 270 million bodies later, and it still goes on today. But now, due to pressure from the Muslim Brotherhood terror org, Obama and other leaders and media now call Islamic Jihad 'workplace violence' and 'ethnic tensions'. Mohammed must be laughing himself silly down there in the flames.

Maybe the US should hire the Israelis to do all of their foreign relations and for dealing with all the Islamist hate groups and terrorists terrorizing the whole world right now and ethnically cleansing all non-Muslims from those lands that Islam invaded, conquered and still occupy (talk about 'Occupied Territories'!). A lot more would be accomplished and more accurately and efficiently, and the horror and scandal of Obama's and Clinton's huge incompetent blunder (at best) at Benghazi and with all their supportive dealings with the Muslim Brotherhood and Saudis in their jihad against the world in forcing Islam down our throats through deceit and subversion (here in the West) and at gunpoint in the Middle East would cease to exist.

Beth S, you make an excellent point. Indeed where could a monster like Idi Amin find safe haven but in a black hole of human rights like Saudi Arabia, who all Western leaders bow to and ignore all their atrocities, unless it would be another glorious Muslim state like Sudan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Iran, Iraq, you name them all and see if there is one of these Muslim ruled lands that has freedom of speech, religion, conscience or press, or honors the UN Universal Declaration on Human Rights, which by granting equality to women, protection of children from 'marriage' (rape) and banning the abuse and killing of gay people, not to mention demanding all the freedoms named above, goes against Islamic Sharia Law.

Good points, Beth, Carola, and Rob and Jay.

In today's world, where most are inured to or actually cheers Islamic terrorist attacks against the Israelis and Jews in other countries, because Arab oil has enabled perceptions to be changed by way of buying the services of top-notch PR firms, Islamic studies departments at the most elite universities, influence buying and the insidious influence and infiltration of the Muslim Brotherhood into numerous Western countries, this act of courage and commitment by the Israelis who performed this wondrous feat would undoubtedly receive world-wide condemnation.

Headlines would read something like:

'Zionists Illegally Occupy Ugandan Territory'

'Zionist Aggression Causes Attempt to take over Ugandan Airport and Kill Innocent Ugandan Soldiers'

'Zionist Entity Flies Planes Over Unauthorized Ugandan Airspace'

'Israelis Cause Friction Again with Foreign Governments'

So it is with the world turned on its head.

Israel has continually tried to teach the nations of the world how to deal with Islamic terrorists but many of them are too stupid to understand what they're up against or the mentality of these cowards.
Entebbe was the zenith in terms of showing these vermin and murderers that they would be dealt with no matter where they were, but since then the cowardice displayed by many nations has emboldened Islamic terrorists the world over and things are getting worse by the day.
We desperately need another Entebbe.
Thanks Alexa.

I went through transit in Entebbe on my way to SA. 4 years before the Israeli rescue. Not an easy rescue from a caotic trigger happy Ugandan airport. At that time in 1972 I was glad to get out of there. The Israelies did really well. But why did they ever give assylum to Idi Amin? I can never understand that.
