16 Jul 2017 - Thanks to all who have signed my petition, it means a lot to us pensioners. It really made a difference when a few of our supporters promoted the petition by donating through Chang.org, we would appreciate more of that.

I had already signed, but this is something I believe is needed in many Nations. When the people who are now retired were working we didn't make the big money many make today. Also the protections were on that kept the income gap from now being so wide as it is today. Not only can't people make it on wages today but those on fixed pensions are hurting.

People on Social Security haven't received a decent raise in years and it is not keep up with the rents and cost of medical that most need as they age. Our social security is linked to the cost of oil, when oil prices go down or remain the same, the social security doesn't go up, or only a 1% increase. They need to tie it to the cost of medical or food, because many Elders don't drive their cars as much, some not at all.

Thanks for this Darren......previously signed.....I am a Self Funded retiree at 61 years of age and now 63years old....and have never been on any Government support including unemployment, family benefits, etc at anytime during my life time. Here are a few facts about our Age Pension system.....firstly it is Index to the minimum wage as well as inflation etc....real wages have not gone up over the last few years and the inflation figures can be manipulated.....so in fact the Age Pension is over the Poverty line when you take into account...the additional supplements that are given, and the amount one can earn and the amount of assests one can have before their Pension is reduced...our Medicare system with gives them reduced price medicians, and other benefits.......You also have Local and State government suppliments and discounts...... travel, rates and rego...etc....... when you combine all this on top of that they are well and truly above the set minimum wage........ When I first started working in 1969....the Age Pension Age for a woman was 60yo and 65 for men........this changed to 65yo for both men and women.......now it has changed again to 67yo rising slowly to 70year old around 2020. So the Government is raising the Age slowly.....I now have to wait until I am 66yo........and believe me I have paid taxes all my life and I still do..... Now for those that can no longer work and are not self funding like myself....they are put onto New Start (Unemployment benefits or the Dole as most call it).......This has not increased in over 30 years and does not carry the same Benefits as a Pension......those on New Start do live well and truly below the Poverty Line....and more and more elderly will face hardships on this because before you are eligible you must have very little in assests and a very megre income.........how about Petition to raise New Start instead????

"Thank goodness Ros isn't in government!" LOL Animae C......I can't serve in Government because I carry dual citizenship.....and I suspect you might as well.......but I can belong to Lobby Groups.......what is wrong with supporting those that really do live below the poverty line??????? I have seen the same "snobbery" in my own family.......I am better because I am a "Disability Pensioner" unlike the "Great Unwashed, Unemployed" who don't deserve our level of support......... Thank you Dawn W......I am glad that you appreciate my contribution.....via my taxes.....

Pauline Hanson well what can I say.......Darren your Mother might read an "unmentionable newspaper" but her supporters are something else LOL

Pauline Hanson today in Parliment http://www.news.com.au/national/pauline-hanson-turns-up-to-parliament-in-full-burqa/news-story/c04fe220ba1722f63fe9e321c7cd50f8

Know it is off topic but she was mentioned earlier on in this thread.....to kick her out......but I do think that was because she supported the "cuts" and that person may have been a supporter of hers.....on this...and now feels a backlash.......so this is a stunt that Pauline has come up with to support her "core" base

Thanks Darren....now for some real facts....not just whinging........when I reach Age Pension in Australia......I can own a home....worth millions....because it is exempt.......

If I was single I can earn up to $164 per or $292 per couple in income per couple per fortnight..

On top of that if I was a single home owner and had other assets (excluding the family home) I would be allowed and extra $550,000.00 and as a couple I would be allowed $827,000.00......

If I was an unemployed......single or coupled........I would have to reduce my income/assets to zero to get unemployment/dole payments.........thankfully I fall into the first category although I will have to wait until I reach that "magic age" ......and I get advisers to maximize the benefits of the Age Pension when I am eligible

HERE'S THE REAL FACT WITH THE LINK TO OUR GOVERNMENT SITE;

How the income test works;

We assess your income from all sources. This includes financial assets such as superannuation. To work out how much your financial assets are worth as income, we use deeming.
Pensions have income and asset limits. If you’re over these limits, you get a lower pension.

Who the income test is for;
The pension income test is for people who get:

Age Pension
Wife Pension
Widow B Pension
Bereavement Allowance
Carer Payment
Disability Support Pension

We don’t use the income test if you’re permanently blind and get Age Pension or Disability Support Pension unless you get Rent Assistance.

Thanks Animae for that link......if the Age Pension goes up so do all these others.....right....so it is not just about the Age Pension.....it is about everyone that is on a Pension here in Australia......

The figures that I quoted are a real assessment done by humanservices.gov.au .....be it for whatever Pension and both Income and Assets tests were applied.....the only thing that I found out of kilter was the Deeming rate.......which is far to high given our low interest rate around at the moment......

I was asked by a Group if I would volunteer my services......if I could shed any light on why there is a dramatic rise in homelessness for women over the age of 50.......so I did some research for them.....

Fact: Women who were over 40 once got the Widows Pension automatically....even when they were not truly "Widowed".......separated or divorced women were classified as "Widowed" that stopped and now only if you were born before 1955 are you eligible, where as the ones on the original Pension still are on that "Widows" pension.......unlike those that come under the new rules......they are on NewStart which is unemployment benefit........well below the poverty line...... their numbers are growing daily and they will find it a relief when they are entitled to the Age Pension........if life on the streets lets them live that long..... thank you for your concern for this growing problem.

UPDATE:
Aug 27, 2017 — I'm finding it difficult to enlist help in promoting this petition, I am only one aged pensioner relying solely on the age pension for my existence, and I need help. I have tried without success to enlist the help of the media, politicians, business and TV programs.
It would be great if people could actively promote this petition through change.org, as little as $5 will show this petition to be shown to over 300 more possible supporters.
Any assistance will be gratefully appreciated by age pensioners Australia wide.

Thank you,
Lex de Grauw

Thanks for the UPDATE Dimetiros........how are those "austerity" measures going in Greece???? That's the problem with being a dual citizen in Australia........my Mother was one......the exchange rate can be a killer.. it really reduces the amount you receive.........that's what happens........with Globalization.........

As for this statement " as little as $5 will show this petition to be shown to over 300 more possible supporters" doesn't sound like good value for money to me
