"Despite the fact we are in 2008 despite the fact that we are going around the world preaching to everybody about how bad they are, ...here in Canada, we have a situation which is utterly disgraceful.", Ontario's former lieutenant-governor James Bartleman

Learn how you can have an impact on these unacceptable conditions First Nation people endure on a daily basis. Please visit:

"Canadian aboriginal reserves rank 63rd in the world under the United Nations human development index, which is on par with parts of Africa, said Bartleman."

The Canadian Government should pay more attention to the Native People, Aboriginals, in Canada instead of people in other countries. Take Care of your own First, Canada.

TY, Michael.

Noted...Thank you Michael for the enlightening article. I have had plenty to say in the past on how the First Nations have been treated here in Canada. In some ways we have a worse problem than the USA,on second thought maybe not. The Europeans came to the Americas they disregarded the First Nations people as pagan uneducated ignorant and having no recourse the Native citizens were taken advantage of.The Canadian Goverment has returned lands to the First Nations after years of Court battles. The Canadian Churches have admitted atrocities against the First Nation's children after many Court battles. I have noticed that with each hard won case the two Defendants seem think they have been sorely put upon, BooHoo!
Large Companies have always worked the "wink, wink, nudge" with the Goverment to take Natural resources from Native lands and rape Mother Earth before the Natives figure out what is being done. When oil was discovered, the Natives had to fight in court for royalties from wells on their Reservations. I could go on forever, but would be preacing to the choir, so enough for now.

Thanks for the supporting comments. 3rd world conditions for First Nation people shouldn't be allowed to continue, regardless of the country. Canada is not a 3rd world country yet it continues to neglect its original people to such a level that it can be compared to parts of Africa by the U.N. That says a lot about Canada and I believe that this is because of a fear of empowering First Nation people.

This is a time of change for First Nation people, we have made great leaps in the last 20 years and we will continue to do so. I remember stories of my father's younger years and it was described as hell on earth. It's important to note also of what is being done right now and should also be in focus, for instance as a First Nation business owner I am trying to empower other First Nation entrepreneurs to better their life and thus their community by creating The Standing Proud Project and I invite all of you to take part in this by visiting:

Same in my country Australia, the aborigines are being "raped", first they take away their land, then their children. They have no rights either. Just horrible. Thanks Michael

Same in Hawaii...the real Hawaiians on the reservations (called homesteads)on the driest side of the island are now landless and homeless and living on the beach in "paradise"....freedom and justice for all??

Thank you, Michael, yes I absolutely agree with your comments, and thank all of you for your comments as well.... it lies past the comprehension of your everyday Canadian or American, that we have third-world conditions in some of the richest countries on earth, the lands of opportunity! Sounds like something out of a bad movie....but it's not an illusion...it's a nightmare for tens of thousands....
