Couldn't get link to sign, but will be looking out for your message and will sign as soon as I get it. Thanks.

Unfortunately, yes, there are sick individuals who would indeed like to "exterminate" (their words) homeless and non-native people.

This beaks my heart, Stand up people get these so called politicians out of there offices and as tax payers stop this wasteful spending! More money staying here at home and not sent elsewhere we would have the money to care for and take care of the over poputation of our furry critters. I would be glad to sign any petion but it takes more than that make the people see the horror of whats happening .I'm a in your face kind of person. It can't be denied then when its in front of you!!

Instead of funding the murder of cats, we should be helping the dozens of local Homeless Animal Rescue Teams(HART) that can do so much good in a humane and just way. My local group finds homes for cats and dogs, and operates a Trap, Neuter, and Release (TNR) program. These programs work very well- killing is unnecessary and inexcusable.

My cat was a feral and my home has been hers since '96.

We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit IDA's Action Center.

The short explanation of this alert was:

Last month, the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed H.R.767, a bill that would promote the killing of "harmful nonnative species." Officially called the Refuge Ecology Protection, Assistance, and Immediate Response Act (or REPAIR Act), H.R.767 includes feral cats as one of the species targeted for destruction. Please Take Action to urge your Senators to oppose H.R.767 when it reaches the Senate floor for a vote.

Please tell your family and friends to take action, as well.

KOW BIZARRE NOW IT SAYS THE CAMPAIGN IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE AND TO CONTACT OUR REPS????

I suggest we declare a good many politicians as "harmful nonnative species" and eradicate them.

All of our cats were feral - I like your HEX, Lamargo P - I shall borrow it and aim it.

I can't believe the weird message either. They closed the campaign and I can't find it on their total list of campaigns either. That is ridiculous!!! It's OUR fault that they are feral in the first place. We need to stop overpopulating the companion animal species, which forces cats to be born outside without human contact to become feral animals. TNR programs are a VERY effective, humane way to deal with feral cats since some people see no need to spay and neuter their own cats in an effort to prevent stray, feral and unwanted cats. This is another classic example of animals having to pay the price for man's irresponsibility!!!

My cat was not only "feral and homeless" when we got her but amny times has been deemed "untame, crazy" and countless other stupid names. This year she proudly wore a Santa hat with her Christmas stocking for her 7th Christmas and sent a picture to the last person who had to muzzle her at the vet because she was simple frightened to be there : ) She is a baby inside.I call her my Bebe Do.I feed feral cats.

There is no end to government cruelty to animals and nature. They have a goal to mess up nature and destroy humanity and they are good at it!

We have five cats at home. Several of our other cats have chosen to shun human company and live in a barn halfway down the hill. But we still care for them. If an act like this was to come in our area... we would be devastated. Also, the cats that still live with us don't wear collars. How does this act propose to sort the feral cats from the tame house cats in the first place?

My last furryfriend was found abandoned on the streets in NYC and at first was very frightened. It took 2 yrs to get him to trust me. After that,I would toss him in the air like a child and catch him upon arriving home(he purred very loudly)and then danced around with his paws around my neck and sang to him. Ferral??I think not. Remember the middle ages when cats were exterminated because they were thought to be evil??Then they got over run by rodents and then came the plague?? Don't any politicians read history. Good Grief. I guess I'll just write to my senators but it would have helped if the site posted them and a pre-written letter. Besides, cats are NOT non-native.

I have a feral cat lying on my bed as I write this comment. Her son is outside but little by little I am coaxing him in. Yes he has been neutered when he was a kitten but he thought he preferred the outdoors. He sleeps in the green house in the winter when the heat is on but he is soon to become an inside cat whether he likes it or not. He may fuss a bit but I think he will get use to the amenities very quickly.

Noted Frankie....I can't believe this, all 3 of my cats were unwanted outdoor cats. They are the most loving and adorable girls you would ever want to meet! So very affectionate, all they needed was a little love and someone to care about them. I certainly hope this bill will be soundly defeated!!!!!!!

I have 6 cats of my own , all rescued and have just taken in 5 more~~4 "dumps" and one poor wee feral boy who had to be put to sleep 'cause he had feline leukemia, a heart murmur and a very bad skin disease~~the other 4 have been spayed/neutered, immunized, treated for fleas, ticks and ear mites, bathed and are almost ready to be adopted~~that will be the hardest part of all~~if anyone out there is near London, Ontario, Canada I have 3 gorgeous boys and 1 adorable female tuxedo who need a forever home~~the cruelty to animals never ceases to boggle my mind!!!!

I called and talked to IDA (In Defense of Animals), the group that had the petition and sent them an email requesting they put something up. I have not heard back, however, I located the letter sent to my Senator when I signed the petition. Here it is. Copy and paste it into and email or letter and send to your senator:

Senator Dianne Feinstein
U.S. Senate
331 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510-0001

Dear Senator Feinstein,

I am writing as a constituent and a voter to ask that you please
vote No on H.R.767 when it comes up for a vote on the Senate
floor.

Officially called the Refuge Ecology Protection, Assistance, and
Immediate Response Act (or REPAIR Act), H.R.767 includes feral
cats as one of the species targeted for destruction. The bill
would place no restrictions on the species that may be killed or
the methods used to eliminate them, and allow the federal
government, using taxpayer money, to enlist hunters and trappers
as the exterminating agents.

The government need not pursue the eradication of feral cats to
protect native animals. Trap, Neuter and Return (TNR) programs
are the most humane and effective way to manage feral cat
populations while preserving wildlife. Please vote No on H.R.
767.

Sincerely,
Name

I had a feral cat some years ago. He was beautiful. Mind you, when he arrived he was covered in lice. That was treated immediately. That is something I cannot stand.

He was also very wild and scared. He was arching his back and hissing and spitting at every new frightening thing.

We just put food down for him and gradually saw him relax a little. Then we could get nearer to him. then we could slowly and gently stroke him. Within about 2 weeks he was sleeping on our laps.

They don't have to be killed and they have not even given rules as to how they must die. That is asking for trouble and many cats are going to be cruelly abused by people just wanting to get the job done, get the cats killed and move on. The way some of these will die is horrifying to think about.

These cats did not make themselves feral. Their plight is caused by some pathetic lump not speying or neutering their cats. That is what they should be spending the money on - neutering programmes.

OMG sickening! how can this kind of thing be allowed and tolerated in a so called civilisation?? We have a cat who by all means was a 'feral' cat .she was only about 4 or 5 months old and she had obviously been living in the streets alone and frightened for a while. We took her in and she is now the most adorable, loved and wonderful pet anyone could wish for...there is no excuse for this kind of killing and cruelty. thank you for sharing this interesting article x
