Today The Parliament voted for a strong Regulation that will eliminate the placing of seal products on the EU market, closing a primary market for the Canadian commercial seal hunt.

the shame are some of MEPs - yesterday Diana Wallis (ALDE, UK) rapporteur said: "Seals are very beautiful marine animals – in fact, I have realised during this process that they have great PR – but to some they are the rats of the sea. That is how they are perceived by many fishermen: an adult seal gets through an enormous amount of fish on a daily basis. Therefore, there will remain the need for seals to be hunted to ensure the sustainability of fisheries in some area."
Most MEPs supported the ban: 550 votes in favour, 49 against and 41 abstentions

Yeah ! Awsom news Trudi, I already heard it earlier from Claudia but it is such a relief to know they finally do something about it ! It's far from over yet and we have to keep pushing further, but it's a start in the right direction !
