Victorian Farmers Federation egg group president Brian Ahmed said slashing the sale of cage eggs in supermarkets would remove consumer choice.

What he doesn't say is that there was suppose to be a review in 2010 to ban caged chickens.

So, by the sounds of it the Federation egg group had no intention of banning caged chickens and would have bought off the state governments once again, like they did in the late 90's. All the states in Australia had agreed at the time to ban caged chickens but there was a last min turn around by the NSW govt and it was put on hold for review in 2010. All the state had to agree to the ban.

What Woolworths is doing now will be a great help in bringing about that ban.
