The Australian government meets this week to decide whether to permit the continued slaughter of sheep whilst fully conscious. This would not only be a step backwards for Australian standards, but would hinder efforts in the Middle East to improve animal

this is a copy of the letter I sent, if you wish you may copy or use it as a guide for your own letter.

I'm writing regarding the killing of sheep without stunning.

On the Nov. 6th the Primary Industries Ministerial Council (PIMC) will decide if religious slaughter without pre-stunning will continue to be allowed in Australia.

There is no justification for animal cruelty, whether it be for religion, tradition, culture, entertainment or any reason what so ever. Animals are not made out of plastic or tin, they are living beings that feel pain and have emotions, they are innocent, defenseless and voiceless and we have the responsibility to protect them from cruelty.

Killing sheep without prior stunning causes "panic and terror" and they can remain conscious for up to 20 seconds after having their throats cut.

Princess Alia has explained that ethical treatment of animals is a key tenet of Islamic teachings and stunning of animals before slaughter is accepted.

Princess Alia has also appealed to Australia to not approve non-stunned slaughter as it could impact on efforts to have stunning more broadly accepted in the Middle East.

To continue the practice of killing sheep without stunning would be a step backwards for Australian standards and damage efforts in the Middle East to improve animal welfare standard.

This practice should not have been accepted in the first place and as there are many reasons to stop killing without stunning and no reason at all to continue, it therefore stand to reason that it must discontinue.

I'm am so upset at the moment because the following is the reply I received from the email I sent this morning. The government didn't even bother to read my email, that is how much notice they take of us. They just do what they want. Not even an auto reply, election time is the only time they know us.

Yep - this government doesn't give a toss about animal welfare! Unfortunately for the animals, neither does the Opposition:(
I sent my emails individually last night, and have just received this -
Good morning

I write to acknowledge receipt of your email and to advise that I have forwarded it to Mr Redman’s ministerial office at Minister.Redman@dpc.wa.gov.au as you have sent this to the electorate office and we do not have the capacity or the resources to handle ministerial issues here. If you have any further comment/questions on this issue, would you please direct future emails to the ministerial email address given above.

Yours sincerely

Jeanette Trent

MEMBER FOR BLACKWOOD-STIRLING
So anyone emailing - substitute Minister.Redman@dpc.wa.gov.au for terry.redman@mp.wa.gov.au

I notified Unleashed about the wrong email address.
Thanks, Ani - what a shocking business - we should be trying to lead by example - NOT allowing ourselves to be dragged down to their level!

it is disgusting enough that animals are slaughtered for food to begin with. but to do so in such a barbaric method is unspeakable cruelty.

when are humans going to start waking up and living lives of compassion instead of cruelty, greed and lust.

This is so sad. What happened to compassion? Why must we slaughter these poor animals. Sometimes I wonder how it feel to be on the other end of the coral. It's just terribe I don't understand how these people sleep at night? How do they live with themselves.

Thank you for alerting us to this crime. I too have now sent emails and hope that with the many they will receive from Care2 members and citizens of Australia that these barbaric decisions will be repealed. It is difficult to understand the thinking and total lack of compassion behind a decision such as this.

Action taken A.B. and thanks for alerting us to this situation.
This is a total no-brainer. Why would anyone want to make animals suffer more than they already do?
A sad reflection on our Australian politicians.
