Raed Jarrar was not allowed to board a flight at JFK airport because he was wearing a t-shirt that said "We will not be silent" in English and Arabic. Airport security said it was like "going to a bank with a t-shirt reading 'I am a robber.'"

Such behavior is absolutely intolerable in my opinion. It reflects the current American mentality of servre xenophobia, arrogance, discrimination and ignorance. It pains me to see what my country is turning into. I seriously question Presidnet's Bush irrational concern regarding 'Islamofascism', especially when our own government is endorsing and practing another type of radical fascism--Fundamentalist Christian Fascism.

The tenets of fascism are the same no matter where they are practiced: a dictator having complete power (BUsh certainly has been striving toward that since he entered office), forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism (we see this clearly in this article as well as in our society regarding a plethora of things, including but not limited to, minority rights, gay rights, immigration rights, complete disregard for our judicial system, etc.) regimenting all industry, commerce (selling out to big business and providing big business with unnecessary and unjust tax breaks, etc.) , and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism (agressive nationalism cloaked in a protectionist doctrine of pre-emptive warfare in order to protect the US even when certain threats are simply contrived, and planting the fear of the foreign unkown in the hearts and minds of the American citzenry...and creating, maintaining, with the hope of perpetuating an accepted and tolerated form of racism towards any group or country that does not bow to the needs and 'whims' of the USA.

Ironic. And I would not be allowed to make the pilgrimage to Mecca because I have no male relative to accompany me. Not that I would dare visit Saudi Arabia. Because I believe in the Qur'an alone, reject Hadith and Sunna, I am considered heretic.

Ahh- that's nothing! If you really want some human rights go to one of those countries where they have the public beheadings and they kill you if you're homosexual.

Two men were recently asked to leave their plane back to the UK after a holiday in Spain, this was due to the fact that they were Asian and surrounded by wholesome white UK families. Oh yeah and they were speaking in a language not known tho their fellow passengers. This was seen as suspicious behaviour, therefore they were clearly terrorists ! What did the fellow passengers do the whole time they were in Spain ? Did any hear a language not known to them, perhaps Spanish ! Of course those people weren't Asian so that's okay then. GRRRR to narrow minds the world over !

I am freguently embarassed to be an American, simply because of the embarassing behavior of other citizens who can be, well, asses.

The analogy with “going to a bank with a t-shirt reading ‘I am a robber.’” is unbelievable. "Not being silent" and declaring this is going to become a crime then! I don't agree with Matthew who says this is nothing compared to human rights violations in Muslim countries. There shouldn't be a hierarchy on violation of human rights and poor practices should not be our benchmarks.

It wasn't a crime- they just asked him to change shirts. Whoopee!
