I'm thrilled to announce my candidacy for school board with running mates Tim Goodwin, Karen Siston, and Al Malley. This is an important election. Eight candidates are vying for four seats. Your vote counts in local elections and can make a difference!

Thanks, Catman, for your kind words. We hope we win all four seats, too.

Four seats on a seven-member board offer the opportunity of the majority vote on important issues facing our schools today.

My running mates and I truly care and want to lead our school district in a new direction. Keep your fingers crossed on April 7!

Thanks, Dee. We need a lot of luck. The campaign is getting ugly. Our signs are now disappearing! We must be doing something right! We will continue to remain positive and strong anyways...

Thanks, Amena, for noting and commenting. Yes, we do need a big change. With four of us running together for a seven-member board, that change will be possible. Isn't that exciting?

Let's hope the voters get out and vote for change!

It's time we set precedent that children should come before politics. Evidently your signs are being seen by someone. Keep up the outstanding work you are doing.

I love it, Marena. I'll be more than happy to challenge the "status-quo!"

We already took the Board to court and won the case for voters' rights.. I'm proud we took action and solved that ballot problem. Voters will determine all four seats at the April 7 election.

Let's hope voters will give us the chance to lead our school district in a new and positive direction!

Thanks, Geri and Jaylena, for your kind words.

Yes, we do need more good people to get involved in local politics. I encourage anyone who has the desire to try for a position. The rewards outweigh the negative side of politics.

Thanks again for all your support during this tough race.

Thanks, Kat...I love your optimism, too!

The feedback we're getting from the community has been outstanding. The people here are ready for change.

Let's hope they vote for it on April 7.

Does anyone else have a local election coming soon? I encourage you to learn all you can about your candidates and vote. :)

Be sure to let us all know how things work out. I wish there was something I could do to help you. Most of our school board is unspeakablely awful and new candidates are the same. Texas seems to enjoy being very low on scoreboard for education.

Janet, my dear friend, no one deserves to serve on the School Board more than you. The school would be lucky to have you, as you will be such a breath of fresh air, and such an improvement to the School Board. Good luck to you, now just go get 'em.

Hi, Janet. We don't know each other, but it sounds as though you have the convictions and dedication necessary to do real good on any school board. I have heard of the work of Vision, highly commendable.

I'd like to know if creationism is an issue in Chicago, though, or if children there are still learning true science without any threat from evangelist extremists.

Thank you, Sharen, Debbie, Alba, Robin, Judith, Carolyn, Sue, Elaine, and Lily...your comments are inspiring and encouraging.

It's been a rough two days. The local paper printed the 2009 Election Guide Survey in Thursday’s Triblocal, March 26, 2009. My survey was NOT included!

The editor states: “Janet Hughes did not respond to this survey. Hughes, Karen Siston, Tim Goodwin, and Al Malley are running as a slate.”

Please note my survey WAS submitted on March 9, 2009. I have the email that proves it. Karen Siston and Al Malley also submitted their surveys on March 9. However, mine was NOT included in the Local Election Guide on March 26, 2009.

I am currently seeking a correction/retraction statement from Triblocal.com and will keep you posted on the outcome.

What's next?

Thanks, Misti and Marena, for your kind words. You're great friends...

We had our only forum last night with all the candidates on the ballot including the Village Board, Township Board, Library Board, Park Board, High School Board, and the Fire Protection District. I must say, the Grade School Board is the heated race!!!!!

Elect Hughes, Goodwin, Siston, and Malley on April 7, 2009!
