PROBLEM
At this very moment homeless animals are being killed in Columbia County, Georgia because the Georgia Department of Agriculture has unnecessarily revoked the license of CSRA Happy Tails Rescue, Columbia County, Georgia’s LARGEST PRIVATE ANIMAL RESCUE GROUP, in an unprecedented witch hunt. The rescue is NOT allowed to take in any more animals and the 38 dogs housed at the rescue’s headquarters need to be placed in loving forever homes by March 18, 2013!
HOW YOU CAN HELP
1.) ADOPT from CSRA Happy Tails Rescue. The animals are healthy, spayed or neutered and vaccinated. The adoption fee is now only $80.

2.) Contact the Georgia Department of Agriculture and politely remind them that animals are being needless killed at area shelters due to this and CSRA Happy Tails Rescue should be kept open.

BACKGROUND
CSRA Happy Tails Rescue is run by Ms. Barbara Gleitsmann a retired school principal who has been recognized by the Augusta Red Cross as “A Local Animal Rescue Hero” (July 2012). NO ONE does more for homeless animals in the CSRA than Ms. Barbara Gleitsmann and CSRA Happy Tails Rescue. From 2008 to 2011, Columbia County Animal Services released 1,389 animals to rescue groups; CSRA Happy Tails Rescue took 961 of those.
In the Department of Agriculture’s last inspection on January 23, 2013 they acknowledge that “The animals here appear to be receiving humane care. They all have adequate food & water & shelter.” In addition, in the Georgia Department of Agriculture’s interview with WRDW News 12 (a local CBS station) the department states that “there didn’t seem to be ANY health issues with ANY of the animals.” As Christie Ethridge states in the WRDW News Channel 12 broadcast, the Department of Agriculture report shows that “This facility is now as sanitary as possible and the dogs are well cared for.” The minor issues that the Georgia Department of Agriculture alleges remain are “record-keeping, a rodent problem and some yard debris.” In other words, numerous animals are being killed in Columbia county and beyond since CSRA Happy Tails Rescue is not allowed to take in any animals!
The animals have always been well-cared for. In 2012, CSRA Happy Tails Rescue spent over $65,000 on veterinary expenses. The rescue survives on donations and all monies go towards the animals. This is main reason, the legal case turned out the way it did. Legal services were donated by a lawyer; however, the lawyer was unable to go the the hearing in Atlanta and Ms. Gleitsmann had little alternative but to sign the paperwork from the Georgia Department of Agriculture.
This ‘investigation’ into CSRA Happy Tails Rescue started because of a “whistleblower,” a homeless woman who Barbara allowed to stay, for free on her property with her 11 cats (the result of in-breeding due to her not spaying or neutering them). Barbara also boarded the woman’s dogs for over 1 year at no charge. As the popular saying goes, “No good deed goes unpunished.” Thanks to her many lies and false allegations regarding the rescue, CSRA Happy Tails has been the subject of intense scrutiny since 2012.
I’ve been a volunteer here for several years: fostering animals; caring for animals at the headquarters, participating in adoption events, going with Barbara on crisis calls to rescue dogs, delivering pet food donated by CSRA Happy Tails to an area family who made urgent calls for help, etc. I know Barbara and she and CSRA Happy Tails Rescue have my highest recommendation. She loves animals and people and has devoted her entire being to this. I often look at her and think “how does she do this?” She’s the first to wake up to care for the animals and the last to go to bed.
For over 10 years, Ms. Barbara Gleitsmann and CSRA have been serving the community. As she pleads, "We have supported the public in a variety of ways for a long, long time, and we have touched the lives of a lot of families. Not only are we saving animals, we're helping families, so now is the time that we need help."
Over 300,000 animals are needlessly killed at shelters in Georgia annually. Ms. Barbara Gleitsmann and CSRA Happy Tails Rescue play an important role in reducing the number of animals that are killed and promoting low-cost Spay and Neuter services.
This is a case of David against Goliath. We need your IMMEDIATE help!
