We feel bad about the inhumane things happening here, in our country. In fact, we feel the WORST: It happens right under your nose, but you feel so weak, knowing nothing to do but praying for their lives. Your heart's bleeding, but you only see that the government members do nothing except beating around the bushes.
We have animal-friendly activists risking their lives to promote animal rights, to save the former family pets (which are usally kidnapped, sometimes even robbed) from the butchers' hands.
It once happened that a young lady, an undergraduate student, who went on a volunteer tour to Southern China, lay in front of a truck to stop it from going any further. That truck was loaded with hundreds of cats and dogs, most of which kidnapped family pets, some even had collars and name tags on them. The volunteers then saved the animals and sent them to animal care centers. However, due to the lack of legislation, the animal vendors cannot be punished, while those who freed the animals may even be sued for disturbing the business of the vendors.
Today, 6.21, comes the Summer Solscace. This is a day, when in some regions people eat dog meat to "improve the immune system". Nowadays, most of this tale has been proved evidenceless and comes entirely from some people's intentions:
In order to make a boost in the local tourism, a "summer solscace dog meat festival" was set up in Southern China's Guangxi province.
This "festival" is a time when over 10000 dogs are inhumanely killed (How? It'd be disgusting to discuss), and sometimes cats, puppies, kitten as well.
As there is NO such breeding organization for "food dogs" in China, and that thousands of pet dogs disappear silently on streets, AND the fact that there ARE routes to sell dogs secretly to other parts of the country---it is clear that how the restaurants (most are too untidy to even be called "restaurants") got these dogs is no fair trade.
