Stop destroying Croatian rivers!

"Hrvatske vode" is a company with a goal to protect water from pollution, prevent floods, manage water use, etc. But their activities prove otherwise.
Over the years they are devastating rivers in Croatia by removing all of the riverbank vegetation, digging and deepening the river canals, paving them with huge rocks and concrete blocks, speeding the river flow and polluting the water. One kilometer of canalizating a river this way costs about 20 milion kunas (around 3 423 350 $).
As a result, milions are being invested into something that has no use. River flora and fauna is being destroyed, the endangered river crab(Astacus astacus Linnaeus) is being exterminated, the rivers look like artificial canalization systems, the water is very muddy, mud is getting into the adriatic sea polluting croatian greatest natural treasure and main income of the already poor country, the rivers can't irrigate the surrounding agricultural fields and so on
As a country that makes most of it's income from tourism, and a country that represents natural beauty it is a shame to destroy what the earth has blessed us with. It is about time someone puts a stop to this desacration of a still beautiful place. Maybe it is not too late.
