Ban Plastic Bags in Oregon

Plastic bags have serious consequences for the environment.

That's why a bill was introduced into the Oregon legislature that would ban plastic bags and require consumers to either bring a reusable bag or pay 5 cents for a paper bag. But plastic bag manufacturers are waging a misinformation campaign to stop the ban.

The plastic industry is falsely claiming that plastic bags are not a threat to the environment, even though ample evidence points to the contrary. They've even sued ChicoBag, a reusable-bag manufacturer, to end the company's advertising that suggests reusable bags are better for the environment.

Urge the Oregon legislature to support the environment, not corporate interests.
Dear [legislator],

I am writing to support the proposed ban on plastic bags in Oregon.

Around 1 millions plastic bags are used every minute, and the majority are not recycled. They then have serious consequences for soil and waterways and can be deadly for marine animals.

However, the plastic bag industry is trying to convince the public, and lawmakers like yourself, that plastic bags are not hazardous to the environment, even though the EPA, NOAA and UN recognize the impact that plastic bags have on ecosystems worldwide.

I respectfully ask that you support the ban on plastic bags.

Sincerely,
