Bush on Economic Stimulus Package

bush1.jpg 1/18/08 -- Posted by Catherine Morgan

Just yesterday I posted on the declining state of our economy, and the discussion of an economic stimulus package. Today, President Bush addressed these economic concerns in a news conference. Here is a transcript from the AP.

From the New York Times...
President Bush called on Friday for a $140 billion to $145 billion mix of tax rebates for American families and incentives for businesses to provide "a shot in the arm to keep a fundamentally strong economy healthy" and avert a deep slide into recession.
The president said the package "must be big enough to make a difference" in an economy as large as that of the United States, meaning it should be worth about 1 percent of the gross domestic product.

It will be very interesting to hear reaction from the democrats, as well as the presidential candidates, on this stimulus package. I will do a post later today on these reactions.

Until then...What do you think?

I want to know if the money i am to recieve as part of the economic stimulus pkg will be calculated into my 2008 tax burden. For example, if I recieve $600 would that $600 reduce any refund I may have coming to me when I file my 2008 tax forms?

Congress is making a decision as early as this week about a short-term economic stimulus plan. *But Bush is pushing a plan that gives even more tax breaks to the wealthy--and leaves middle-class and poor families out in the cold.
I signed a petition urging Congress to pass an economic stimulus plan that gets money into the hands of those who need it most, and that includes public investments to move us toward a 21st century, clean energy economy. Can you join me at the link below if you are a U.S. citizen? If not, please pass this message on to any U.S. citizens you know!

Our government could have stopped Bush and Cheney by impeaching them but they didn't .Why didn't they ? That is a big question every one of us should seriously be asking ourselves ! Is this really our country ?Do we really elect our presidents or are they chosen for us by large corporations that run this country ?Do they even care what we think or how we live ? To my estimation the answer to all those questions is a resounding NO !Its time to take back our country from these theives !

Unless you have been hiding under a rock the signs of a falling economy were everywhere you looked for a long time now.In the grocery store,at the gas pumps,in your utility bills, high unemployment, home forclosures and banks folding up in the news.I knew we were headed on a slippery slope long ago and that all Bush's lies about the economy being solent and strong didn't make me believe otherwise as it did for those who still believe this mans lies.Bush and Cheney made their money on this war and the deals they made with large corporations and foreign countries selling out America and its people.Their not worried about the economy .I am sure they put their money in foreign currency they know will not fail like the dollar already has. Folks we are already in a recession the next step will be a depression ! Every sign that was there in the last depression is there right now .What more evidence do you need before you make some serious plans to prepare yourself for the worse. This could also be a planned failure of the economy to push through this deal he wanted to make with Canada and Mexico to join in one nation under a new currency the Amero .Who knows with Bush and Cheney anything is possible as we have seen the worst state this country has been in under any president, from the war in Iraq the shreding of our constitution, torture of prisoners and huge tax breaks for the rich while the middle class shrinks and the poor are barely surviving. Our government could have stopped this

Bush has lied to us Americans and the world long enough -- lied about 9/11, lied about WMD, lied about Iran, and now his lies about the strong economy have been exposed, too. We need this lawless man driven from office now! January 2009 will be too late -- the world economy will have collapsed and America will make another pre-emptive war, this time it will be nuclear against Iran. Drive Bush & Cheney out NOW!

he should start borrowing from Bill Gates and the other 1% of the controllers of wealth in this country. The tax payers pay enough already, let the wealthy 1% fix this country, and let other countries worry about themselves for a second.

I'd like to know how President Bush plans to pay for this economic stimulus pkg since all government monies come from us and the government is already working in the red. I guess he will borrow from the Chinese.
