Can the healing of the Democratic party begin now?

June 2, 2008 -- Posted by Catherine Morgan

Can the healing of the Democratic party begin now? Tomorrow will be the end of a very long primary season, and time for Clinton and Obama to come together. I guess the real question will be...Can the supporters come together? Is unity of the Democratic Party possible? What do you think?

Obama Promises To Work With Clinton In November...

Barack Obama said Monday he and rival Hillary Rodham Clinton will be "working together in November" despite fears by some that the Democratic Party will be divided after the long and bitter primary campaign. On the eve of the final two primaries, Obama told a rally and town hall-style meeting in this Detroit suburb that he understands there have been "some worries about whether the Democratic Party will be divided when it's all over."

From The Huffington Post...

Hillary Clinton has summoned top donors and backers to attend her New York speech tomorrow night in an unusual move that is being widely interpreted to mean she plans to suspend her campaign and endorse Barack Obama - if not that night, within a day or two.

Obama and Clinton spoke Sunday night and agreed that their staffs should begin negotiations over post-primary activities, according to reliable sources. In addition to seeking Obama's help in raising money to pay off some $20 million-plus in debts, Clinton is known to want Obama to assist black officials who endorsed her and who are now taking constituent heat, including, in some cases, primary challenges from pro-Obama politicians.

"This has never happened before," one donor said, referring to the personalized request by email to attend the event in New York Tuesday night.

Obama is expected to claim enough delegates to put him over the top that night at a separate event in St. Paul.

In an afternoon conference call today with about two dozen top fundraisers, Clinton strategist Harold Ickes spoke in very conciliatory terms about Obama, in contrast to his tougher rhetoric in public and on television, according to sources. He told the participants that Clinton wants to "significantly" help Obama, but he did not go so far as saying that she will announce withdrawal -- that is the prerogative of the candidate.

From Tales from the Trail...

Speaking to reporters outside a Rite-Aid distribution center in Waterford, Michigan, the Illinois senator gave more details about a conversation he had with Clinton when he called her on Sunday to congratulate her on her win in Puerto Rico.

"There aren't many people who understand exactly how hard she's been working. I'm one of them," Obama said of their hard-fought race.

"I told her that once the dust has settled, I was looking forward to meeting with her at a time and place of her choosing," he said.

Obama, who hopes he will rack up enough delegates this week to clinch the Democratic nomination, has been making a point of publicly praising the New York senator. His hope is to ease divisions that have opened up in the party during the months of campaigning.

Some Democrats worry the rift among Democratic voters may put the party at a disadvantage in the November election against Republican Sen. John McCain.

Oponents of the Democratic Party will try to cause splits. It is important for Democrats to process their differences in a mature and responsible way in order to preserve a united party that works with sound morals and ethics for the best interests of all living beings.

It would be a big mistake for obama to have hilary as his running mate, she and her husband will be all over obama, they would only get in his way, I'm sure obama's wife feels the same way!!! obama do the right thing, don't give in to the clinton's... obama does not need the clintons to get into the white house, there are far more better people out there to choose for his running mate.. anyone can beat john macCain, just look at what the gop has done to this country, thank's to george bush and his rat pack, its time for big change in this country...( we dont need the clitons back in the white house)......

Not only is Insane McCain exactly the same, in all the worst ways, to the nose-picking, tantrum-throwing drunk and his snarling, profane handler, but he's also senile, an ass-kisser, and a flip-flopping hypocrite. Of COURSE he wants to woo power-mad Billary's stupid, vicious, bigoted followers, who don't give a hang about the country, or the people -- only their own petty pretense at importance.

NO. WAY. Should Hillary be VP. She was nasty to Obama, nasty to Edwards, nasty to Richardson, and she's nasty NOW. I once thought she would be good as maybe Secretary of State. I now think she shouldn't even be in Congress. She's a hateful, power-mad old broad, and she'll be a liability wherever she attaches her limpet body.

If Billary-lovers "stay home" or "vote for McNut" because they're bigots who hate black people, then they'll get the disaster they deserve. People that stupid shouldn't even be allowed to REGISTER to vote! If you're such a psychotic moron that you'd rather have an insane senile lying pretentious thief from a family of wealthy privileged thieves, than vote for a "ni**er," which is exactly what you're saying, then go be a repukelican in the first place, because you are certainly no one I will EVER associate with.

If Billary, or any of her hangers-on, had ANY honor, or any of the values they wail about, or ANY concern for AMERICA, they would IMMEDIATELY get behind Obama, and unite against the common enemy, instead of all this "but Billary is ENTITLE

It is laughable that Obama portrays himself as black...he isn't...he is bi racial...he is NOT THE FIRST BLACK PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE....Lie number 1...makes me wonder what else he's lyimg about...and his supporters who are gullible enough to go along with him saying he's the first black nominee...he is half white! I have a 17 year old bi racial granddaughter and even she knows the difference...How come Obama doesn't??
Obama had betteruse what smarts he has and have Hillary on the ticket if he wants my vote..or, yes, you will end up having 4 years of McBush!!

I'm a moderate that leans to the left. I began being excited about Ms. Hilary for years, but was disappointed with her views on the conflict in Iraq and her attacks on the President. I ' not a big Bush fan, but I know and feel that he was the right man at this critecal time for our country. Her attacks and Gov Obama attacks were just dissaponting for me peesonally. I' leaning towars the repulicans because of this issue. I hope they do some deep soul searching before November. If any body should know how important it is to support the President, its the Clintons. My God who would want to be President thes days?

A divided party has never won an electio. So, the surest way to ensure McCain's election is to let our differences divide us. Whoever is finally nominated needs the support of all Democrats to win.
