Shame on me for not paying more attention, but I got tired of the same ole' stuff. Gravel has always had my vote. Wouldn't it be great to have a President that didn't raise bazillions just for a political campaign?! It would have to be a miracle, too (if you haven't noticed, the one with the most money always wins). Well, Gravel you can count on me, and would you like to know why? Because you have actually given some thought to the challenges our country & our planet face...and you've come up with some real plans, unique approaches that you believe will work. I'm willing to give them a try! The "other two" just repeat whatever is popular; I just do feel like I can trust them. And neither do my international friends (who btw have not heard of you).
On a side note...I gave up my car for Earth Day 2008 and I won't buy another car until they make sense on a global scale (and my budget)! Listen up Detroit! I know what you did in Europe...and it's ridiculous that the candidates our BEGGING for so much less than you already make for someone else!
Mike GravelMike Gravel (77, Democrat) retired from public office in 1981 after serving in the Alaska House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate for many years. He was a real estate developer in Alaska and founded The Democracy Foundation in Arlington, VA. While in office, he published the Pentagon Papers in the 60s, served on the Senate's Environment and Public Works Committee in the 70s, and fought to end nuclear testing off the coast of Alaska. He has never shied away from tough issues. He received a BA in economics from Columbia University. He has a wife and two grown children. http://www.gravel2008.us/ |
Gravel believes global climate change is a matter of national security and supports capping emissions and ending global deforestation. He believes we must end dependence on oil on a global level.
Gravel supports an immediate and orderly withdrawal of all U.S. troops from Iraq to be completed within 120 days, as well as U.S. corporate withdrawal. He opposes military confrontation with Iran and supports a diplomatic solution.
Gravel unequivocally supports same-sex marriage on a national level and all gay and lesbian rights. He supports a mandatory training program prior to gun ownership and while a Senator, opposed executive power.
Gravel advocates a universal health care voucher program. The federal government would issue health care vouchers to all Americans, and Americans would be free to use the vouchers (as a supplement) to choose their own health care professional.

Gravel would implement a new tax proposal that would eliminate the IRS and income tax and replace it with progressive national Sales Tax on new products and services. He would also put real money instead of borrowed money into the Social Security Trust Fund.

I have to be honest I didn't even know he was still running. I'm pretty darn happy about that. And it stinks that he's not gotten any coverage. The things is what can we do? We'd better do it fast. Any suggestions? AnnaMaria

I love Care2connect for reasons like this. While everyone else is ignoring and minimalizing Gravel they are giving him fair coverage.

Yes, it is too bad that the media is keeping candidates like Gravel and Kucinich in the dark. Of course they have their reasons G.E. owns the media the weaponry and the power plants, why would they want people like them in office. They would shut them down, improving on poverty and environment.

Mike Gravel has a great plan to empower us with legislative power via the National Initiative. This would make us partners with the congress in making laws. I can think of no better way to counter the unbalanced influence corporate lobbyists have over our representatives.
