1492 votes

John McCain

John McCain (71, Republican) comes from a family of Navy officers. He served as Lt. Commander in the Vietnam War where he was injured when his plane was shot down in North Vietnam. He was taken prisoner of war and remained so for five and a half years, during which time he endured daily beatings and solitary confinement. He went on to become a Captain in the Navy and upon his retirement, ran for Congress. Four years after his first Congressional victory, he ran for U.S. Senate and is currently serving his fourth term. During those four terms he has focused on eliminating wasteful spending and offering unique guidance on the security needs of the nation. He ran unsuccessfully for President in 2000. In 2002 his campaign finance reform legislation (McCain-Feingold) passed. He and his wife, Cindy, live in Phoenix with their four children.

McCain believes we should limit carbon emissions by using market forces that will bring advanced technologies, such as nuclear energy, to the market faster, and at the same time reduce our dependence on foreign energy. He believes in common sense stewardship.
McCain believes we should increase the number of troops in Iraq and implement new counterinsurgency strategy, build a capable Iraqi army and control the violence to pave the way for political settlement. He believes a stronger military is the key to national security.
McCain supports religious freedom, the right to date interracially, interracial adoption and Native American rights. He strongly opposes gay marriage on moral grounds but opposes a Constitutional ban, believing it to be a State issue. He supports some gun control and would ban torture.
McCain believes Americans should have access to affordable health care in a free market system with tax credits, rewards for health and fitness and improved electronic administration. However, he supports reauthorization of the SCHIP as a safety net for a vulnerable population.
McCain is against federally imposed standards with funding strings and supports unrestricted block grants. He believes curriculum should be left to school districts. He supports school choice, tax-funded vouchers and local charter schools.
McCain believes that spending should be prioritized on legitimate national interests, not pet projects and special interests. He would increase accountability and transparency of government spending. He believes in intelligent tax cuts and reform and expanding free market opportunities.

The draft might be a stretch but if we can count on anyone to protect and fight for our country, it will be mccain. I truly dont think that it is time for the military to come back yet. We need to bring the casulty number down and the number of them coming back with other physical and mental injurys. that means that they need better safety and we need to continue funding them and sending them care packages. Untill we close the lid of that can of worms we opened, the death toll for both america and the middle east will keep going up and never stop. Right now we need ot support our military, and I trust mccain to do whats best for them and us as well.

Well, i have heard that McCain wants to not only KEEP troops in Iraq, but he wants to send more!! I have also heard that he wants to reinstate the draft... is he really wanting to increase U.S. involvement for OUR protection, or just to take control and seek revenge becuase he was a P.O.W? Just a question, but some of his idea's consern me.

First off, I have to address a comment way on the first page. How the hell did G.W. Bush cause the Sept. 11 attacks? He'd been in office, what, 2-3 months? If anyone caused them it was Clinton when he didn't stand up and say we won't stand for terrorism after that navy ship got bombed. As for McCain...sigh...I simply can't vote for him. He's voted democrat way to many times to still claim to be a republican. To be honest, I wish there was a none of the above choice or a vote of no confidence. You see, I can't brind myself to vote democrat either. I do believe we need someone who will put a big enough surge into Iraq that it will fix the mess we're in. Which we're in by the way because Bush listened to Cheney, an economist, instead of Powell. I believe if Powell's strategy had been followed we would have been in and out of Iraq in a five year period. Honestly I wish Powell was the one running, if anyone takes him, or Condi Rice, as his running mate that's probably vote for them. Mr. McCain does deserve our thanks and respect for his service.

I ADMIT THAT I VOTED FOR BUSH! It embarasses me to make that confession. I don't want to make another mistake in this coming election. Voting for McCain wouldn't be any different than voting for Bush - PERHAPS worse.

I've listened to the speeches, watched the debates and read extensively. You will hear little if anything about the man that I (and many others) are supporting. Dr. Paul's position on foreign policy is a must-see! Ron Paul's position on FOREIGN POLICY IS THE BEST BY FAR! We should stop being the "policman to the world"!

I have respect for Mr. McCain for his service to our country. But as much as I appreciate what he has contributed, I can not vote for him. Because of the dire situation here in the US, I think we need someone who is even more qualified in restoring our country to the way it should be.

Dr. Ron Paul is the only one of those who are seeking the presidency who really has a handle on what's going down in this country.

Ron Paul HAS NOT WITHDRAWN, the campaign continues and so does the work of those who support Ron Paul.
If you would like to learn more more about Dr. Ron Paul's ideas in returning this country to its constitutional premise, you can get involved in this mission to turn things around.

To join folks who wnat to DO something to make a difference - not just criticize the status quo, you can join a Ron Paul Meetup group.

To find your local group, just
Google:
RON PAUL MEETUP, then enter your zip code.

Our primary is over, and people are still asking for Ron Paul signs to erect in their yards, and this indicates that the Ron Paul Revolution is far from over, and there are many of us who are NOT WILLING TO "SETTLE".

"Every generation needs a new revolution" said Thomas Jefferson. With our economy in such a horrific mess (and, just wait, you will see that things will get worse...) now is the time to step up to the plate and do something before our country in no longer recognizable.

Listen up folks - listen closely to what each of the candidates are saying about the issues that are important to you. Dr. Paul has the following to say that I want to share with you:
"...How can we ask one young American to die for a neocon empire? The soldiers and their families agree with us, which is why our campaign gets more financial support from active-duty and retired military than all the rest combined. They want to defend America, not be part of some globalist scheme to take away our country's independence. And by the way, at both rallies, nobody was for the monstrous Trans-Texas Corridor or the North American Union.
Coming up soon are the Texas and Ohio primaries, with others like Pennsylvania not long afterwards. We are contesting every one, and we will be heard at the Republican national convention in Minneapolis and beyond. A substantial minority of Americans in all parties, not to speak of Independents, agree with you and me. Until November and beyond, I want to work to turn that minority into a majority, with your help. https://www.ronpaul2008.com/donate/
Sincerely,
Ron

Vote for McCain? YOU MUST BE KIDDING!!!

(continued, concluding part of 4 part
article)

No matter what the outcome of the 2008 election, Paul’s participation in the campaign and its debates has been a huge plus in highlighting the long-forgotten founders’ policies of limited government and military restraint and in advocating their relevancy and renewal in today’s world.

That is why I was proud to accept an invitation to serve as a foreign policy advisor to Paul’s campaign. Like being a Maytag repairman, however, it is a lonely job, because the already savvy Paul doesn’t need much advice.

Vote for McCain? YOU MUST BE KIDDING!!!
(continued)

Paul is also unique among the candidates in pointing out that now, rich US allies, such as South Korea, are capable of defending themselves against far poorer foes. South Korea’s economy is about 30 times that of the North and no longer needs a US security guarantee.

With the Soviet Union long relegated to the trash bin of history, no longer must the United States subsidize European defense through retaining the outdated NATO alliance and stationing of US forces in Europe.

Paul is a rare politician who actually acknowledges expert opinion on al Qaeda. That opinion has concluded that bin Laden attacks the United States because of its foreign policy toward the Middle East—that is, the invasion and occupation of Muslim lands, and support for Israel and corrupt, autocratic Arab dictatorships.

Yet contrary to empirical evidence and polls in the Arab/Islamic world, other politicians in both major parties—to buttress their interventionist foreign policy prescriptions—either conveniently ignore al Qaeda’s motives or disingenuously attribute bin Laden’s hostility to his distaste for American culture or political and economic freedom.

In sum, Paul has astutely realized that the republic’s founding principles have never been more relevant to today’s world.
