CNN Democratic Debate in SC

clintonobama1.jpg 1/21/08 -- Posted by Catherine Morgan

If last week's debate was a democratic love-fest, then this week's debate was a Jerry Springer show. In fact, when they brought the chairs out for the second half, I could almost picture Obama and Hillary throwing them at each other. Thankfully, that didn't happen, and they actually continued the debate in a much less confrontational way.

I enjoyed watching this debate much more during the second half, when the candidates were behaving in a much more "presidential" manner. However, not surprisingly, the media is now focusing its attention on the bickering and fighting. I was watching this debate with my 13 year old daughter, who casually mentioned to me that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton were both acting like children. Then regretfully, my son came out of his room after the debate to tell me that Hillary came off as the "B-word", and he thought she wasn't letting Barack get a word in edgewise.

Personally, I learned more about the candidates and their positions on the issues when they were discussing them calmly and rationally...And isn't that the actual purpose of a debate? Several times John Edwards was the voice of reason, and the one who brought the debate back to the important issues facing our country (like poverty, the economy, and healthcare). It was clear by the cheers and jeers of the audience that they were strongly in support of Barack Obama. Although, it seemed to me that Hillary Clinton and John Edwards came off more presidential tonight.

So, did you see the debate? What did you think? Was there a clear winner?

It was a very lively debate - isn't that what debates are for? To underline the differences and the candidates records? I thoroghly enjoyed it!

I wasn't able to watch the recent debate on television, but I sure heard about it the next day. I think it's extremely unfortunate that the two leading candidates for the Democratic nomination should spend all of their time bickering with one another and trying to tear each other apart. We have so many serious problems facing our nation and the rest of the world. We need leaders who will be honest with the American People and deal with these problems. We don't need to watch two "supposedly" grown-up adults acting like young children in front of millions of people. It sounds to me like John Edwards was the only one of the three candidates who conducted himself with any real maturity and wisdom. Because of this, I am seriously considering voting for him, now.

I am still appalled that Obama's sterotypical comment about "seeing Bill Clinton Dance before he could say he was a brother" was greeted with laughter. I am sure if Hillary's response would have been "Oh you should see him dance then you would know he is a brother" the media would have been all over her.

I think both Clinton and Obama are not to be trusted. I wrote them both for help and both do alot of talking, but no action. ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS FOLKS. And Mit Romney ( still waiting for his show of he can do his job. WHile he was Governor, I was literally forced from my home by the Town Administrator and Chief of Police, Fidelty National TItle refuses to pay my claim, than Governor Mit Romney and his Lt Governor Healy (office) told me to stop bothering them they could and would do nothing for me, it wasn't their concern???. AND NOW HE WANTS TO RUN OUR COUNTRY?!?!. I have been homeless since July 20, 2006, not Senator Reed or Whitehouse(R.I.), Senator Menard(MA), Senator Boxer(CA), Senator CLinton(NY) or Senator Obama have EVEN attempted to do their job and bring this injustice to CONGRESS, so it can finally be fixed (which CONGRESS should ) since the laws , banks , lenders and federal guidelines on real estate have been totally thrown in the TIOLET. If anyone wants AMERICAS vote, FIX THIS HORRIFIC INCIDENT (Actions would show the PERSON CAPABLE OF RUNNING OUR COUNTRY).
absolutely secluded, deeded to lies by Fidelty National Title. Only way to this beautiful newer cape with 62 feet of beach is by helicopter or by boat (real property for sale)

Obama deposed? That hints of xenophobism! Look it's a debate and Hillary's husband was lying about Sen. Obama's record! Look up the facts until you just believe what you see on TV. Also, this is a Debate! Do you want passion or boring "saying what you want ot hear". I guess most don't get it....

Larry, what's your issue with Obama, exactly?

I have to say that I am disappointed that Kucinich was left out. He's on the ballot, so why shouldn't he be included?

When are we going to get 2 canadates from either party to vote for. the choices we've had for the last 50 years are not worthy to be president. Obama should be deported as far as I'm conserned. too bad he is a natral born US citizen.
