Al Gore's Challenge For Environmentally Friendly Power

Al Gore wants Americans to abandon electricity that is generated by fossil fuels, and instead develop environmentally friendly power. Gore thinks we can do this within ten years, what do you think?

From The New York Times - Gore Calls for Carbon-Free Electric Power...

Former Vice President Al Gore said on Thursday that Americans must abandon electricity generated by fossil fuels within a decade and rely on the sun, the winds and other environmentally friendly sources of power, or risk losing their national security as well as their creature comforts."The survival of the United States of America as we know it is at risk," Mr. Gore said in a speech to an energy conference here. "The future of human civilization is at stake."

From TreeHugger...

There's also a warning from Gore: If we don't act, the price of oil will keep rising because of demand from China and India, most of the world will be at the mercy of oil-producing countries, and irreparable harm will be done to the planet and the ecosystems that support our life.

From The Slant...

It appears even Al Gore (right) can't get congressional Democrats to move quickly in addressing global warming.

According to The Hill, activism to save the world from greenhouse gases and global warming are taking a backseat to the hue and cry over $4-a-gallon gas.

The big concern: Appearing too much of a tree-hugger in a close presidential election would leave Democrats open to political reprisals from Republicans. The last thing Democrats -- even those from an environmentally conscience state like Florida -- want is to be seen as "soft" on energy.

I can't believe it hasn't already happened! i think the government should take all the money being spent on oil, and use the money to build more green houses (ex. insulated windows, solar panels on roof, etc.) i think we would be setting a great example for the rest 0f the world.

Florida is an economy living state? News to me, come live here and swelter from the heat because you can't afford to use your A/C at all, and watch all the animals dying for building of more houses. Watch as Eggland cages those poor chickens so badly just to get eggs. Gove me a break, Florida is a xxx hole. Our waters are so poluted with oil and rx. from hospitals we should be condemned.

Solar energy components are expensive, I looked into it and I can't afford it. If just one of the companies that markets the panels and inverters would come out with a kit that the consumer could do themselves-like a starter kit, buy an inverter and say two panels-something that could be put together in a modular way while all the time recouping the cost in a slight lessening of your electric bill-I think they could make it pay and make it practical. I read over a year ago that it would take $32,000 dollars in solar equipement to make an average house take care of it's own solar power needs. This means it's out of reach for the average family unless they take out a mortgage they may or may not be able to pay. If they can't pay it-there goes their house, most would not want to take a chance on it. If they could start small and make it something they could do over time, I'd bet a lot of them who can't afford it now would be doing it. I know I would.

Many military veterans that are disabled and their families would love to buy solar panels and wonder where we can get affordable ones. Thanks please email resources to info@letterstosoldiers.org

The inconvenient truth is Al is ahead of his time - it is going to take a decade we don't have for his colleagues to catch up with his forward thinking mode.

Al Gore's speech is right on. Leadership is rare in today's politics, especially given that gas prices are on everyone's mind these days and his call for action means rallying Americans to think outside the box and find new solutions that will help prices over the long run. The naysayers have it wrong. Al Gore did not get us into this mess -- our unsatiable appetite for petroleum and our willingness to let our politics be heavily influenced by deep pockets did. We should all pause, listen and reflect on how we can be part of the shift to a carbon-free economy. Kudos to Mr. Gore for standing up and giving this message a voice.

Al Gore is the Jesse Jackson of the global warming swindle. Despite the fact that his propaganda film has been thoroughly discredited, his groupies continue to buy the lie and enrich his pockets. How else does he pay his $20000 / month electric bill? The blind are leading the dumb. How pathetic.

I have no reason to trust a thing that Al Gore says. It's his doing that's making gas prices high and he's almost being able to reach his goal of 5.00 a gallon. This man needs to be stopped!!

I have no reason to trust a single word Al Gore says. It's his doing that gas prices have been going up and he's almost being able to reach his goal of getting it up to 5.00 a gallon. He's got to be stopped!
