Ill Governor Charged With Selling Obama's Seat

Illinois Governor Rod R. Blagojevich was arrested this morning and charged with corruption for allegedly offering Barack Obama's U.S. Senate seat to the highest bidder.

From NY Times...

Mr. Blagojevich, a Democrat, called his sole authority to name Mr. Obama's successor "golden," and he sought to parlay it into a job as an ambassador or secretary of Health and Human Services, or a high-paying position at a nonprofit or an organization connected to labor unions, prosecutors said. He also suggested...his wife could be placed on corporate boards where she might earn as much as $150,000 a year, and he tried to gain promises of money for his campaign fund.

"If I don't get what I want and I'm not satisfied with it, then I'll just take the Senate seat myself," the governor said in recorded conversation, prosecutors said.

Politico adds that the recorded tapes reveal Blagojevich "express exasperation that Obama and his team aren't willing to offer him an inducement in exchange for appointing an aide...to the Senate."

The governor, who along with his administration has been under investigation for over a year, is accused of similar past behavior of seeking benefits for himself and his family in exchange for appointments to state boards. He is also charged with threatening to withhold state assistance from the Tribune Company if it did not fire members who had criticized him.

Ironically, Blagojevich has portrayed himself as a reformer after the previous governor of Illinois was convicted of fraud.

Greed, inflated Ego and Power = Corruption, Gov B needs to face his action of these mob-like behavior that I would expect in third world countries. Well this unseasoned Gov. was unlucky he was caught. How many behind closed doors are operating this way and running our States, Country. Well all I have is faith to go on...which is something of a novality these days.

I live in Illinois, and I believe that we need to IMMEDIATELY change our state motto:

OLD - The Land of Lincoln

NEW - The Land of Stinkin'

I have not had an interview for a full-time job since 2001 and this idiot wants to bargain a Senate seat for a $150,000/year job for his wife! I would be happy to earn more than the $12,000 I earned this year! Ageism is a terrible thing.

TN is more corrupt than Il. This nothing in comparison to what the good-old-boy network does in TN.

We need to stop voting for Poly-Tick-shuns (Poly: meaning; Many and Tick: meaning; Parasite and Shuns: meaning; to shun or avoid) and start voting for human beings. I also think that the entire educational history of anyone running for public office from the first day of kindergarden to their first day of honorary University degrees (remember Bush's? what a laugh!) so that we can truly see where these creatures heads are at. Were you in the debate club? Oh, really? You were? OK, I'm not voting for you. You actually want to be a Poly-Tick-Shuned? Then I am definitely NOT voting for you. What...you're a working stiff who's tired of being screwed by the Poly-Tick-Shuns and you want to make a go for a Congressional seat? OK, you've got my vote.

I made an error in my previous post. I incorrectly referred to Andrea Bruneau as "Andrea G."

I also wish to clarify that it seems to me Andrea views Natasha's and the NY Times statements as an attack upon Democrats in general. My impression is that those statements WERE "about one man," the "allegedly" corrupt Illinois Governor, not about Democrats in general.

I stand by my comments about the powerful (corrupt) Republicratic Duopoly. Even so, I endorse the VALUES ESPOUSED by Democrats. My best friends are all (local) Democrats. I despise Republican values. My political heroes include Paul Wellstone, Walter Mondale and George McGovern. If you want to go back, I have problems with Hubert Humphrey's and Lyndon Johnson's war policies.

Jesse Ventura is merely an example of someone who threatened the status quo, not someone I voted for or admire, except in the abstract sense that he did upset the reign of the Big Two Parties.

No Party or politician is exempt from scrutiny.

Andrea G's comment challenges Natasha to "read up" on the "facts," but gives no citation of any alternate set of facts published by a reputable source, to dispute the source cited by Natasha, The NY Times. I read the BBC News story and found no discrepancy of facts presented.

Power corrupts.... It's a disease that has always infected politics. The infighting within the REPUBLICRATS is a distraction from their collusion to exclude all non-members of their Power-Drunk DUOPOLY.

I didn't vote for Ross Perot in 1992, but was fascinated when he brought up topics the Republicrats didn't want brought up. Then Jesse Ventura "shocked the world" by winning the MN Governor race on "I'm not a politician" platform.

Since then, non-Republicrats have been forcibly excluded from even attending Presidential debates, let alone speaking there.

At last Louisiana is out of the corruption spotlight - for now.

Most corrupt State...and don't be surprised if Obama is mixed up in all this down the road!
