Interview with George W. and Laura Bush
|
President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush sat down with Charlie Gibson to reflect on the Bush presidency, the current state of the country and achievements and failures. Here's part one of the interview:
And here's part two: Gibson immediately got down to business and asked about the economy, with questions such as, "When you add it all up, you've got about $7.5 trillion in funded and unfunded backing of securities now... Does that scare the willikers out of you?" Bush stated that he was confident that the economy would recover. When asked if he felt responsible, he responded, "...a lot of the decisions that were made on Wall Street took place over a decade or so, before I arrived." Gibson moved onto looking back on the past eight years and asked, "What don't the American people know about being President?" Bush answered, "I think they'd be surprised at how out team has worked so closely together...we're a highly motivated group of people that are honored to serve." First Lady Laura Bush joined the conversation to discuss the highs and lows of the past eight years. Gibson asked, "What do you think the country's feeling is about George W. Bush?" Bush guessed, "I hope they feel that this is a guy that came, didn't sell his soul for politics, had to make some tough decisions, and did so in a principled way," while Laura Bush felt he was considered as "somebody that kept them safe for eight years." Bush continued to say he was disappointed with the failure of intelligence reports concerning Iraq and the failure of a comprehensive immigration reform, but considered keeping the country safe his greatest achievement. The thing he will miss the most is being Commander-in-Chief. He ended the interview with, "I will leave the presidency with my head held high." Bush currently has one of the lowest approval ratings in U.S. history, but does he have accomplishments to be proud of? What about failures? And will you miss him? Check out part two of the interview on your ABC station tomorrow night. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section. |

In fact, a lot of george's personality displayed in these answers seem to be framed in a similar way to Barack Obama's. He's at least 'attempting' to frame questions in a less defensive, more abstract and thoughtful way, as opposed to his usual strong-willed, go-it-alone speech patterns. at least a little
