UPDATED: Sarah Palin's Acceptance Speech - see full video

Here is the full video of Sarah Palin's acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention. We now have a lot of media and video reaction. Please tell us what you thought of the Sarah Palin speech in comments. I look forward to hearing what you think.

UPDATE: See an extensive fact-check of the Palin speech...It may surprise you.

MEDIA AND BLOGGER REACTION TO PALIN SPEECH

Carl Berstein on Sarah Palin speech...

Jeffery Toobin on Sarah Palin speech...

CNN's Roland Martin...

Chuck Todd on Palin speech...

Rachel Maddow on Sarah Palin speech...

Fox News...

From The Conservation Report...

Sara Palin talked a tough talk. She looked good, and she energized the crowd. If I did not know the issues or care about the issues and wanted to take someone solely on their face, then she would be appealing to me. However, on energy and environmental issues she fails. As a result, if she fails on those key issues then she fails on national security too.

From Daniel W. Drezner...

This was the first time I heard Sarah Palin speak. A few quick thoughts:

1. She sounded completely unconvincing on energy policy those were the moments when it seemed like she was clinging to the Teleprompter for dear life;

2. The attacks on Obama were effectively delivered her matter-of-fact tone means she underplays the lines, which actually gives them a bigger punch. I suspect she’ll do well in that role because it will be easy for the GOP to cry foul if/when they counterattack;

3. Forget red state/blue state cleavages; the cultural divide in this election is urban/rural. There was very little about Palin's speech if you lived in a large metropolis.

4. The thing I will remember about this speech was not the speech itself, but watching the Palin and McCain clans play "pass the baby!" with five-month-old Trig Palin. As a parent, my first reaction upon seeing him there was, "why isn't this child sleeping in a crib somewhere?" First rule of baby-parenting: never f$%# with the sleep schedule.

5. Piper Palin, on the other hand, was pretty adorable.

6. Very little of substance was said. This continues a theme from the DNC.

From Mathew Yglesias...

Give Sarah Palin this much her understanding of the geopolitics of energy is every bit as daft as that of much more seasoned conservative pseudoexperts. She can spin out outlandish and ultimately nonsensical scenarios about Iran (or Venezuela) deploying the mythical "oil weapon" and she, too, can ignore the fundamentally global nature of hydrocarbon markets by prattling about "energy independence."

What I think: I think Sarah Palin did a great job giving the Republicans exactly what they wanted to hear. Personally, I don't agree with any of it, and I think she came off a bit rude and disrespectful. All of that aside, there was one moment that made this whole speech worth watching. And this is it...

Is that not the cutest thing you ever saw?

Talk about grasping at straws to "win" the White House! This is NOT country first, this is blatant pandering to special groups. This is not "genius" for choosing a woman, any woman, to "break the glass ceiling." This isn't history in the making. This is simply shockingly inappropriate.

Choosing Sarah Palin as a running mate shows wanton disregard for the well being of our nation and for the larger picture of global stability. Palin's "foreign affairs experience" is the geographical fact that Alaska shares a border with Russia. I see that Alaska is also close to the North Pole. Does that mean that she maintains good diplomatic relations with Santa Claus?

Having a "hockey mom" in the White House does not inspire my confidence at all. Just because you're a woman or a mother of a brood of kids (and who IS taking care of the baby, anyway?) does NOT mean that you are qualified to take over the presidency of the United States of America. Nor does that qualify you to represent the US in the global arena. The former beauty pageant contestant is literally a heart attack away from being commander in chief! That's absurd and entirely reckless!

Pundits predict that Palin will be "up to speed in a year." May I remind all of us that we are in an economic and global crisis right NOW! Palin is a self-proclaimed (and obvious) "outsider" to the workings of the US government and the intricacies of foreign affairs and as such she weakens the Republican ticket and puts this nation in per

"The only difference between a pit bull and a soccer mom is lipstick" is insulting to both dogs and how could any mother or soccer mom respect the comparison? This mentality is combative, materialistically dehumanizing, sexist, racist, and not acceptable.

If this is the best the repulsive repugs can offer, they have lost it, don't get it, and need to really reconsider their lost identity as an identity in crisis because International War Criminals and dogs with lipstick R really dangerous to the world population.

If the repugs steel another election with the corporate media propaganda and public manipulation we need to think about whether we can accept the government they form.

It is time to draw the line. It is time to separate corporate from state and end religious distortion of human reproductive rights and threats to other religions, such as Islam and Judaism. God has no business in our government and neither do corporations.

We need people centered government not ignorant personality cults selling theatrics and party politics.

What is scary is the amount of non-critical thinking Americans support our International War Criminal acts and this party-even now.

WHAT MORE CAN BE SAID, WE'VE SAID IT ALL - OVER AND OVER - SARAH PALIN IS A VILE, DESPICABLE, LYING EVIL HUMAN BEING! AN AS A PARENT - I'M GLAD I'M NOT HER CHILD!!

I DEEPLY FEEL SORRY FOR HER (ONE YEAR OLD DAUGHTER, WITH DOWNS-SYNDROME) BECAUSE PALIN DOESN'T HAVE THE HEART OR THE ABILITY TO RAISE HER WITH THE LOVE AND RESPECT SHE'LL NEED! SIMPLY PUT, HER DAUGHTER IS A SPECIAL PERSON WHO WILL NEED/WANT TO BE TREATED WITH LOVE, AND SELF-WORTH! FOR, SHE WILL GROW-UP TO BE HER OWN PERSON, JUST WITH, SPECIAL NEEDS!

I KNOW THIS BECAUSE I HAVE (CEREBRAL PALSY) AND I'VE BEEN IN A POWERCHAIR MOST OF MY LIFE. MY MIND IS VERY SHARP. I JUST PERFER TO BE TREATED WITH RESPECT. AS ANY OF YOU WOULD.

AND AS FOR, HER OTHER DAUGHTERS MAY THEY BE WISE ENOUGH TO BE NOTHING LIKE THEIR MOM!
THAT HAVING BEEN SAID, PALIN IS A HORRID GOVERNOR FOR ALASKA - SHE'S KILLING IT! HER VALUES, BELIEVES AND HER PRINCIPLES NEED TO TAKE A FLYING LEAP.

IF, SHE GETS IN OFFICE - THIS COUNTRY WILL BECOME EXTINCT WITHIN YEARS!

It is all hype, but that is NOTHING new. The McCain/Palin campaign is shaping up in the Karl Rove style and this could be Bush/Cheney.

Jeramie,

I watched the Palin speech with my wife and she had a similar reaction to yours, it made her so angry she was literally sick to her stomach and could not sleep. My wife volunteers in our community and was deeply offended by Palin saying community organizers do not matter. When Palin said Obama was weak to believe in human rights for prisoners of war, we were both appalled. When she talked about fighting earmarks and wasteful spending we already knew she was lying.

We used to live in Idaho and moved to Seattle because being surrounded by right-wing crazies every day was just too oppressive. Her speech was like going back in time.

Palin is a small town bully and we cannot allow to become assistant bully of America.

I had hoped for so much more from Palin; instead all we got was a diatribe against Obama and a speech filled with vitriol and hate while what this country needs so desperately are leaders who can dedicate themselves to bringing us all together - that would provide some of the best national security I can think of. All I could think while the bragging (along with lies) and venom spewed out of Palin was - "You must have nothing to sell us if you have to go on the attack like this. Where are the issues? What are the answers? How would you contribute, if "elected"? WHY should I vote for your ticket?" Sarah just needs to pack up and go back home to her *small* town and execute. We don't need her and I hope with all my heart we don't see another election theft come November. The last thing we need is someone like her in the Whitehouse. Oh, an interesting aside - for someone who advocates abstinence over choice - we see how well that works in her family. Write letters to the editors. Support Obama/Biden. We canNOT let these hateful people be able to even to pretend to win the election.
