Stop Talking About Race and Gender

obamaclinton.jpg 1/14/08 -- By Catherine Morgan

O.k. - I'm bored with Clinton and Obama going on and on about the "race/gender" non-issue. Voters are going to vote on the actual issues (the economy, the war, healthcare, taxes, etc)...I am sick of hearing them attack each other over twisted words meant to sway voters with race and gender tactics. Just stop it! You too, Main Stream Media! Stop making this an issue, when it is not the least bit important to how these candidates will handle "actual" issues important to the American people. You are wasting critical time. Voters need to hear these candidates talk about what they will do to "heal" our country, not continue to add to the "fracturing" of it. So please...Just Stop It!

The MSM loves the race/gender issues - it's great for ratings. In fact, on more than one news station, I am hearing "The race issue is here to stay."

Well, MSM loves polls too. We do not need to follow their lead on this, on polls, or on anything else. Americans needs to know where these candidates stand on the issues, don't let them off the hook by diverting attention to name calling and rhetoric. Voters deserve better than that.

Note to Candidates: STOP IT! If you are serious about "change" - then start changing. Tell the voters what YOU will do for them, not spin and rhetoric about your opponent. FYI...There is this thing called the economy that could use your attention.

I'm not the only one sick of it...

From The Carpetbagger Report
After playing very little role in the election for the better part of 2007, race, racism, and racially-charged rhetoric has suddenly become one of the central focuses of the Democratic presidential race. To see this unfold is painful and disappointing, to put it mildly.

From MyDD...
Obama is trying to divert attention 1) from his stinging loss in New Hampshire, and 2) from his inadequacies as a presidential candidate, mostly his cluelessness about what he'd actually do if he were president -- most recently, about what he'd do to stimulate the economy.

From In This Moment...
Let's not make the Democratic primary a fight about whether race or gender is a bigger issue.

What do you think. Are you sick of the race and gender stuff? Would you like to hear the candidates address the issues important to the American people?

Unfortunately I think that race and gender are extremely important factors in this election. I have heard many people say that they would not vote for Hillary or Obama and when you ask them why they say “He/She doesn’t look like a president.” I have also heard the excuse “I just don’t like him/her.” When you ask which issue caused the person to not like them they cannot identify any of the key issues let alone where the candidate stands on the issue.

Personally I am on the fence with both Hillary and Obama. Every time I mention I might vote for Hillary, a man within ear shot always comments, “Oh that’s because you’re a woman.” It has nothing to do with the fact that I am a woman; rather because I think that we do need to have health care accessible to all Americans who cannot afford it. Yet when I ask the men who state this why they would not vote for her I get one of the above responses.

Butterfly Army
As Americans, fearful that our votes don't count,we are helpless to demand that the media stop dividing us into churches, causes, genders and ethnic groups. However, those of us who see past the smoke and mirrors to see the truth are not powerless. When combined, our voices can roar to life to start a fire that will burn in the hearts and minds of Americans and around the world.
Is it true that a person is known by what comes out of their
mouth?
3 candidates were asked to convey their greatest faults. Their answers:
"Obama answered first saying he has a messy desk and needs help
managing paperwork John Edwards said his biggest weakness is
that he has a powerful response to seeing pain in others, and
Clinton said she gets impatient to bring change to America."
That can't be right, huh? Obama is disorganized and can't
manage his paperwork? Clinton is impatient? and Edwards is
compassionate? Which would you want in the next father/mother of this country? An honest AND compassionate leader? oh and let's not forget...penitent about that one early vote for the war...can't be. Who wouldn't want this man to be president?
Think about that for a moment.
Is he perfect? No, but as you can see, none of them are. If you need to look further than character you can look at their voting records, experience and campaign funding:

I have checked out the candidates thoroughly and Dennis Kucinich is the only choice. That is, if we want things to change for the better.

I thought race and gender went out the window a loooong time ago. Just get on with the business of trying to get the people to believe you and tell what your change is, not just that you believe in change. I want to hear what that change is going to be.

I completely agree.
Thats why I support Dennis Kucinich, he's the ONLY electable candidate in my book.

I am so frustrated that Hillary and Bill's unintentional missteps have led them defensively to attack Barack. It's not his fault! Barack was the first to call up reporters and say "Enough. We're all on the same team when it comes to civil rights." We need unity politics in this country. We can't afford any more time spent on divisive partisan politics. I count myself as a terribly disappointed fan of the Clintons. I will be voting for Barack Obama. He is smart. He has a proven record of making real change for real people. We need HIM on day 1.

After working with several groups to try and stop the Republican Regime from taking women's access to health care and the ever-present attack on freedom of choice, I think gender is absolutely an issue of extreme importance. I'm not saying any leader ought to be elected due to gender but I am sure as hell going to pay attention to a leader who protects my gender's health.

Politics is not about race or gender. It is about healing this country and moving forward. It is about the issues facing us and who will best try to resolve said issues. It does not matter if the person is black, white, or purple. I want to know how the issues will be handled, not about nitpicking attacks that demean the candidates.

Unfortunately race and gender are hurdles in the election process. This country is in such a mess that we CANNOT afford to allow the Republican's ANY advantage in this year's race. They have taken us for a ride that will prove very difficult to overcome. I sincerely hope that everyone will give strong attention to the messages of former Senator Edwards. People complain that he worked against the insurance companies. Well I, for one, applaud him for that distinction. I live in poverty because an insurance co. covering a man who hit my car while I was stopped at a light and he was driving 55mph without watching the road. 29 years later I remain crippled and am a pauper. Insurance companies hate John Edwards as do the corporations that are laying off mid-range and higher workers and out-sourcing their jobs to other countries. It's bad enough that so many people are working 2 or 3 jobs to keep moving. Now well educated persons are being forced into positions they never expected to see and do not know how to handle. I know from experience what this is like. John Edwards is a man of great intellect who has the wherewithal to deal with this picture. While corporations and their leaders are raking in the money, the American standard of living is dropping daily, as is the value of our currency. SUPPORT JOHN EDWARDS!!! Don't allow the opposition any chances to attack on race or gender. We need change NOW!
