Will The Real Joe Lieberman Please Stand Up.

Who is Joe Lieberman? Democrat? Independent? Republican? You decide. Here is his speech at the Republican National Convention. Does Lieberman's support for John McCain help or hurt his campaign? The odd thing about the Lieberman speech, was his gushing over Sarah Palin. Did you see the speech? What did you think? Let me know in comments.

Full video of Joe Lieberman's speech...

From Talk Left...

Is anybody watching this charade? He even has the nerve to call himself a Democrat.

Update: He says Obama isn't right for the job because he has no record. And Sarah Palin, who would step into the Presidency should anything happen to John McCain? Please.

Now Lieberman is praising Sarah Palin, calling her a great lady. She's a reformer. She is a leader we can count on to help John shake up Washington. What about counting on her if she has to take over as President? He can't address that. All he can do is steal Obama's message of change.

Update: Now Lieberman steals Obama's red states/blue states meme: "What we need is not more party unity but national unity."

From Blogger Keeping it Real...

Joe Lieberman is the worst kind of trader to the democratic party. I was literally seething with rage at his words. He is a republican so he should trade in any affiliation he has to the name democrat.

His goal is to steal democrats for the republicans. for this I am offended and I to be honest would like to find and ring his ugly neck. The ratty scum sucking dog. I have the greatest of antipathy for such individuals. he brings out the worst in me.

From The Moderate Voice...

Independent Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman delivered his long-awaited address to the Republican Convention endorsing GOP nominee Sen. John McCain. Lieberman, who in his speech notes that he is still a Democrat, is sure to provoke the usual response from partisans on each side.

But this week we learned something new. Lieberman has long been said to be the Democrat progressive Democrats love to hate and the Democrat Republicans love to love. But that only went so far: according to many accounts, McCain wanted to pick Lieberman as his running mate but faced a buzzsaw of opposition from the party’s conservative base, particularly social conservatives.

From Democracy Arsenal...

Joe Lieberman apparently has an incredibly short memory. Either that or his audacity of deception is reaching for new heights. Take a look at what he just said at the RNC:

"When others wanted to retreat in defeat from the field of battle, when Barack Obama was voting to cut off funding for our troops on the ground, John McCain had the courage to stand against the tide of public opinion and support the surge"

Obama? Cutting off funding for the troops? I wonder if Lieberman is thinking about H.R. 1591, an emergency bill that would have approved $1 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Actually that can't be it because John McCain decided not to support the troops by voting against that bill. Barack Obama on the other hand, supported the legislation. Or maybe Lieberman is referring to the 2nd version of the bill, the one approved by the Senate 51-46? Well that can't be it either, since John McCain didn't show for that vote. Barack Obama did though, and again, he voted for it.

Here is some of the response to the Liberman speech.

From Fox...

From Sharon Cobb...

There was an old comedian named Henny Youngman who used to tell a joke where the punchline was the joke: Take my wife. Please!

To paraphrase Youngman, I say to the Republicans, take Joe Lieberman, please!!!

Watching him at the Republican convention last night, all I could think of was Zell Miller and turncoats.

Joe Lieberman is a turncoat. He needs to go ahead and join the republican party and quit trying to be a major power broker in the Senate and caucus with the Democrats when he feels like it, then turn around and support a republican for president.

I'm all for working with republicans on issues where we can agree or compromise. I'm all against becoming one while calling myself a democrat. Joe Lieberman is such a democrat, and he's not reaching out across the aisle to work with the other side, he has become the other side.

From Cranky Blog...

Joe Lieberman, well...what can you say. He's the toast of the Republican party for becoming the goat of the Democratic party and all for a speech about bipartisan unity that slid like water off an elephants back. What a schmoe.

The incredible thing is that he stood there alone waving the white Fruit of the Loom flag as a one-man Democratic surrender. I am amazed at Joe's lack of understanding of warfare, the guy who surrenders does not get to call the shots Joe. The guy who surrenders loses his leverage Joe. Politics is about pushing the ideas and philosophy that matter to you and the side that surrenders gets diddly-squat Joe! Joe Lieberman can't even bring his own party to the table after tonight and I doubt any Republican will return his calls in 48 hours.

It was amusing to see the confused looks on the young Republicans who appeared dazed, confused and slightly panic-stricken by Joe's assertion that it isn't as important to be a party member as it is to be an American.

The Democrats filled a huge room and stadium with people who argued policies and professed a desire to lift all Americans up. The Republicans couldn't fill a smaller room, but their people are certainly more hateful toward half of this country (ie, anyone who doesn't agree with them or questions the actions of GWB). Add Lieberman into the mix, who's only there to make sure that we keep fighting in the Middle East, and I'm disgusted with them. For people who say the put 'Country First' they certainly are self-serving.

Lieberman is a Republican posing as a Democrat...

He has lied to the people of Connecticut throughout all of his terms & it is time that we shun him & show him the door...

Is Joe Liberman a Democrat, Republican or Independent, he's none of the above. Mr. Leiberman is an Israeli, his prime motivation is to keep Republicans in place to protect his nation. That's it nothing more. He cannot tolerate the intellect of Barak Obama who would question Israel on its treatment of Palestinians as President Carter has already done. No, he rather the "shoot from the hip" mentality of the Republicans hold sway, he knows there is little chance of any deep thinking from this group of reactionaries. Leiberman should be disavowed and cast out by the Democratic Party !!

Ok..I know we think it is a given""politicians lie" However this is what makes it so hard to get people to make the right choices. there are SO MANY who will not know Lieberman lied here..they will believe him! I had already "done my homework" on McCain on veteran's issues and was SHOCKED at how often he votes AGAINST them. Even the DAV (Disabled American Vets)gives Obama an 89% rating and mcCain only 34% !!!Like the poster ahead of me, I am depressed! and all those people saying what an "honorable" guy McCain is with all the evidence to the contrary! (google: McCain anger issues or McCain Keating 5)

Joe Leiberman is someone who is so stupid that he does not realize that he would have probably been the Democratic candidate for President right now, had he acted like a Democrat in 2000. Instead, he walks around with his pious "committment to religious values" aura while betraying friends in uncountable numbers. If the truth be known, he is a professional Jew whose main interest is the welfare of Israel, not the United States of America. He wears the same suit as the PNAC bunch who took this country into a needless War with a profusion of LIES. Perle, Feith, Kristol, Boot, Abrams, Weber,WOLFOWITZ,Rosen,Friedberg,Weigel, Rumsfeld, J. Bush, Dan Quayle, and a number of others did not start the deaths of thousands due to danger to the U. S. If so, they would have continued the pursuit in Afghanistan of Bin-Laden. They went after Hussein to establish a buffer between Iran and Israel. Leiberman, AND this bunch will never accept that MOST Americans are very concerned about the security of Israel, and have been since WW11 when the Exodus began. In their narrow-minded endangerment of AMERICAN security by utilizing the proud U. S. Military as Mercenaries for nefarious purposes, they have not only endangered Israel, but stretched their own country's abilities to very dangerous levels. Or, one must assume that they have some allegience to their adopted country, as all of us do. Lieberman is purely and simply a Political Whore, who has now been abandoned by his Pimp. Recall is in order.

Lieberman made a reasonable case for the attributes this country needs in its new leader after the disastrous 8 years under GWB. However, he failed to convince me that McCain has not or will not forfeit those attributes for political expedience. The only aspect of his speech that impressed me was his call for the nation to come together, to put our individual differences aside, in order to create a better future. Although I believe McCain is an honorable, sincere and capable individual, I just disagree with Lierberman's conclusion that McCain is the best person to lead this country and champion the changes that are necessary to restore our economy; address the health care crisis, global warming, and energy independence; restore our faith in the political process; and improve our standing within the community of nations.

This speech made me a little uncomfortable, to be honest. I appreciate that they are trying to make McCain into a change agent, but what evidence do they give? Lieberman kept saying things that in my mind, from what I've read, are absolutely untrue. It's just like the coverage of Sarah Palin, and it's frustrating.

But also interesting was how dead the room seemed compared to the DNC...maybe that was just my imagination, but people definitely don't seem as excited about McCain as the Ds do about Obama. Hopefully that'll show during the election.

I am from Connecticut and Joe Lieberman is simply a sellout and a liar who just wants to keep his (a) job. He only switched parties because he couldn't get elected as a Demacrat. He really appears to be a clown who is not sure what outfit to wear to the circus (the republican convention) What is his purpose?? I wish he would just quit. Sorry, after watching part of the republican convention last night I got depressed, it’s hard to believe so many ignorant people have convinced themselves that more of the same failed policies will be good, I guess it has been good for them… but not for the average American. Please THINK for yourself before you vote…..
