How many of those uninsured are children?
CORRECT ANSWER: 700,000
What percentage of people with health insurance are actually underinsured, meaning they have coverage so meager they postpone medical care because of costs?
CORRECT ANSWER: 29%. A recent national survey by Consumer Reports National Research Center found a growing number of "underinsured" Americans - those with coverage so meager they postpone medical care because of costs. The report in the September 2007 issue of Consumer Reports finds that 29 percent of people with health insurance are actually underinsured, and that 40 percent of the population aged 18-64 has inadequate access to health care.
What do you consider essential in a reformed health care system:
Coverage for all uninsured children.
Protection against financial ruin due to a major illness or accident.
The ability to obtain coverage regardless of a pre-existing condition.
Coverage that continues even when people are laid off, changing jobs or starting their own business.
Premiums, deductibles and out-of- pocket expenses that are affordable relative to family income.
The ability of people to keep their current health insurance if they choose.
All of the above. If you chose "all of the above", you're not alone. Among the 1,200 Americans age 18 and older who responded to a November 2007 telephone poll by Consumer Reports, more than 80 percent said that a reformed system should guarantee all of these elements.
