I think it is important for people to know what a serious commitment is involved when adopting an animal.

Aside from the responsibilities of time, energy, and emotional support, which are obviously generously repaid in kind by our pets, there is a pretty substantial financial aspect to taking good care of an animal companion.

Yes. I think someone should come to the person's home, a background check should be done, and the person should have proof they can support a pet since animals are not as cheap as people might think. It is a life long commitment to the animal once adopted, and people should not be able to just give the animal back because they can't take care of it, or put it on Craigslist, or give the animal away to someone who might abuse the animal, or sell the animal again.
