Banning anything creates a need for some to get their hands on it.

Ban them "for children"?

If you mean, should parents have a ratings system to help them monitor the content of games their children play, and should parents prohibit their children from playing violent games while they are children, then yes.

But isn't there a ratings system already? If you are asking if the ratings system should be legislated, look to the MPAA.

If you mean, "ban" violent games because children might get their hands on one, then no. If you mean, should the government be banning free speech, then no, and don't be so stupid.

Most violent video games are for 17 year olds and teens (such as Grand Theft Auto), so it is the parents decision if they want their children to play these games meant for older players because most of the time the parents buy the games.
