More weight means the plane weighs more which means less people can fit on the plane. They shouldn't necessarily have to pay for two seats, but maybe one and a half?
Lisa,
Have you ever tried to stop a miserable child from screaming? Why do you think anyone can?
It amazes me how many people get upset that children behave like children are supposed to behave, especially babies. (sigh).
Anyway, most morbidly obese people (those who are obese due to non-medical reasons) do not care enough about THEMSELVES to stop it before it happens. While they might be wonderfully compassionate people in other areas of their lives, they are not compassionate towards themselves (not uncommon for many of us in other areas of life).
I think we need to have compassion for all obese people, regardless of the reasons.
In that vein, I just came up with another solution.
A "pre-entry" to the plane should be only as wide as the seats on the plane. If anyone can't fit through the pre-entry, they must pay for the cost of a business class seat, whether they move into business class, or take up 2 seats.
If anyone is asked to give up their seat so that someone can have 2 seats, then offer them a free business class upgrade on the next flight if available, and a free round trip business class ticket for the future. (or as I got, 2 free coach round-trip tickets).
Keep compassion in mind, as we ALL have issues that affect other people.
Shouldn't they care enough about me not to take up some of the seat that I paid for so I am uncomfortable? Just because you are overweight does not mean you are entitled to make someone else suffer. Just like people with kids, you are not entitled to allow them to scream their heads off and bother other people. That is YOUR life choice not other people's.
