I read somewhere (wish I could remember the name of the magazine, but I do remember that it was written by and for educators) that it's unhealthy for kids to watch TV at all until they're at least three. The human brain is more active while sleeping than while watching TV--even if you're watching an educational program--and at that age, it's much better for kids to learn things hands-on, rather than by watching some cartoon character wave flashcards around
